I have 2 oscars that are right around a year old and have been raised together without any problems since they were about a month old. Infact they hang out together constantly. Then all of a sudden today they are fighting non stop. One has forced the other to the opposite side of the tank and won't let him near the tree that they always sleep in together. 2 males fighting or a pair getting ready to breed????

Has one fish been clearing the substrate or focusing on a flat rock in the tank? It sounds like it could be breeding behavior, but a video and more info would be helpful. What size is the tank?

Hard to say. If it's really aggressive probably need to separate them. How big are they? What size tank are they in?

They are in a 110 gallon and it is just the two of them. I haven't noticed any movement of the sand but the one fish is really protecting the cave like tree thing that they always hang out in. They aren't fighting enough to actually cause damage-I looked them over. It's basically just the one fish not allowing the other to be in the area they usually share so he is fighting back in an attempt to get over there. I can take a video in a while but let me see if I can figure out how to add the picture
