Hi guys

I know most of you guys are overseas so you wont be able to answer in time. But i stil want all the advice i can get.

I just rescued a 26cm (maybe more..28) Oscar. Shes about 2.5 years old. (she does seem a bit smaller than i thought for 2.5 years old)

I have a 10 month old oscar, 22 Cm.

I have a 5ft tank.

Will this work?

Also whats some methods you guys used to deter fighting and ease in companionship?

cheers

Ok so i added her in. She got cut by my clumsy transpotring of her.

My small guy started biting her and picking on her.

The only way i can stop him is if i use a net and deter him.

Someone mentioned holding an oscar in a net for a long period if they play up and it mite stop doing it. was it BGH?

I tried to feed him as well, but theres only so much you can feed.

I really want this relationship to work! cmon oscars! put down your swords!

EDIT: shes not looking that great. The transporting and whole new tank ordeal has really put a toll on her. Her eyes are both cloudy now (it was clear before) and shes laying on the side of teh tank, kinda gasping.

Added salt and new water. Not sure wat else to do

Change your decor around to take away territorial issues, give them some time and they might be ok, but keep an eye because things can get nasty if left to long.
yes it was BGH that mentioned the net and yes it does work if done properly.
when you see your oscar attacking the new 1, grab him into the net and leave him inside the net for a few hours, this will again take away territorial issues and let the new guy take control of the tank, if it dont work, do it again for a longer period, and it will eventually work, trust me.

also... how long have they been together now and when you say their fighting, in what way, explain what their doing please.

Hi,
had some aggression last week with my sunfish acting up.
BGH wrote :"use the search facility for "time out bag".
Said this worked well for him on several occasions.
My question was about fish who lived together for a longtime and started acting up.
Dunno if it will just work with "newbees".
The idea is to take the aggresive fish out of his territory and let him watch as his favorite spot is taken over by the other fish.

Note:time out BAG is a net indeed and NO BAG!

I dont have a net big enough for my oscar, so i have removed him from the tank.

the girl is recovering by herself.

it wasnt really a fight, more my male attacking the female while she lay on the ground.

im hoping tat ill let the girl recover, then ill put the guy back in.

Also what kind of bag should i use for the time out? Any plastic bag is fine?

a net is required for the timeout enclosure. water must be able to circulate through the enclosure to ensure proper oxygenation and removal of toxins.

if your net is not big enough for your oscar you could make one. i beleive bgh put up a method of doing this in his time out thread. jsut search it and it should come up for you.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

NO BAG,S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ARE YOU TO USE ANY TYPE OF BAG....only a net enclosure like a fry or breeding trap or net pouch with a top to it to stop jumpers ....and its to be floated in THE tank you are getting the aggro in !!!!!!!!!!

BGH i searched for ages for your time out bag thread and finally got something.

At the moment i have them both separated, as i want the female to heal. But once i put him in again, if he does anything ill do the trick.

You should write up a nice article and get it stickied BGH. It seemed to have helped HEAPS of people out there.

Maybe an article on "Diffusing tank aggression" in helpful articles.!

Haha, maybe ill write a post, and ask people to give me ideas, then ill rite a proper article.

1. Bag trick - BGH

Also its interesting. I put my male oscar in a tank on his own, away from his big home, and now hes really pissed off. whenever i put my hand near him, he goes for a snap.

even if i have food he goes for my knuckles or hand. and he keeps ripping off my heater caps and placing it on the other side.

not a happy boy!

I put him in again with the girl to see if it would work.

He bashed her again. So hes back in solitary confinement.

I dont know how long this will last!

Shes a really docile oscar and wont fight back.
