Hi to all, i have had a Angel fish with my Oscar for just over a month & everything has been just fine. The Oscar is around 6 weeks old & yesterday the O just turned on the Angel fish & beat her up pretty bad, lucky i spotted this & removed her to another tank for her safety. The tank is to small really for her so i will find her a new home this week. She is 10 years old & i took her orginally because some i know was moving & didn't want her anymore( & i think she would have ended up in the wc). The strange thing is the Oscar had alway's looked after her when she was feeding from a Firemouth i have who use to pester her. So i dont know why the Oscar has suddenly changed, any thoughts guys why this is.

This could be for several reasons:

I think of a few but I suspect that certainly there must be others:
a) Territorial issues, which can happen due to reduced space or lack territorial hallmarks.
b) Poor water parameters making your Oscar uncomfortable
c) Your Oscar temperament might be more aggressive than expected
d) Your Oscar was just playing around but his toughness is too much for your Angelfish
e) Your Oscar saw the Angelfish as food
f) Your Angelfish misjudged the danger of picking on your Oscar
g) Something triggered the aggression and if addressed your Angelfish might return to that tank (no room for mistakes here)

I do keep Angelfish (a pair) with my Tiger Oscars, as well as several other tankmates.

I had to remove two 9" Heros Severum (one Green, one Gold, I believe they are both females) due to a quite hostile episode of sustained aggression form my two Oscars. They were swimming in sync, aiming at the two Severums and hitting upon them hard. The Oscars had them "cornered" as the Severums unsuccessfully attempted to hide within surface floating and submersed floating plants. They attacked, retreated, went to the other end of the tank, swam as torpedoes and hit them back. Their pectoral fins were the most damaged, some scales went missing and I believe I was lucky to notice and intervene on time; both healed in a 30gal wide hospital tank and are doing OK.

among peptj comments, i will agree totally on the ff:

a) Territorial issues, which can happen due to reduced space or lack territorial hallmarks.

d) Your Oscar was just playing around but his toughness is too much for your Angelfish

g) Something triggered the aggression and if addressed your Angelfish might return to that tank (no room for mistakes here)

those three items is the most probable issues. i had been keeping an angel fish since they were juvenile. today, angel is 5 inches body wide and oscars are 14 & 15 inches long. they do not bully the angel except during spawning.
but angel didn't get hurt in all those occasion.

hello everyone.. i have kept an angel fish with my three o's for over a year now.. never had many problems, the angel knows to give them space.

As you can see the angel is quite a bit smaller than the O's...
