my sister's boyfriend works a fish supply place (a place where the petstores get their stock), and he brought me this little guy down from dallas this weekend. he says it is an electric blue jack dempsey, but i don't see much blue. is their any way to tell? he is barely an inch long right now

He is really Pretty, but I am sure his colors will change and brighten up as he gets bigger!

yeah, i hope so. he needs to grow real fast so he can go hang out with his other south american buddies.
i think i am finally going to get rid of the blue ahli. i wonder if Fish Daddy's will take him, they have a huge african tank with a few blue ahlis in it.

well i'm glad it's a EBJD, though i guess it wouldn't have been too big a deal since he was free. When i was researching it on the net, i saw they go for like 60 bucks at 2 inches!
I also read that alot of them die when they are young because they won't eat.
I don't have that problem, thankfully. He is a little piggy.

yeah thats what you have they are really beautiful... The down side is because they have just bread them recently they do not have all the bugs worked out of them yet... they say they will not grow to the normal size of a JD, they are a lot less aggresive, and they do not have as long of a life span. but they are still sweet. I want to get one in my next tank for sure

all of those sound like advantages over a regular JD (except for the lifespan part). i cant wait to see what he looks like when he matures.
