Hi Guys,
My Oscar has shown that at 3 or 4 months and only about 3" long he is clearly unwilling to share the tank with any other O's after damaging several different fish that I have re-housed after thier injury's.
Are there any other fish that could share a tank with such a fish? I only want one, to keep him company, preferably somthing colourfull and that would readilly eat the same sort of food, and have similar temper, I dont want them to fight, just not be scarred of each other [no catfish!]
thanks for any help.
ps- I live in Australia, so it would need to be locally available.

I got my O a Vieja Synspillum at the same size.
They argue sometimes but no damage. That's pretty colourfull!
I got a Spotted Gar and he's allways friendly with my O.
They seem to respect eachother.
But if your O stays agressive I don't know....
could be the same with any fish.

Try to find a jack Dempsey or a firemouth that is the same size or a little bigger... Problem is that firemouths can be bastards... You are going to need to watch them for a while though..
How about a small bass?

A firemouth would be perfect in my opinion or maybe a blue acara (but not a green terror- these fish are oten confused and mis-labled), generally these fish are peaceful

yea, I was thinking of a jack dempsey, I dont think iv'e ever seen one though, are they similar feeders to oscars? I mean will they come to the surface for pellets and possibly come up to the glass like an O' at feeding time, or are they bottom feeders [and/or scared of eating around people]
thanks.

Texas are beautiful fish. I have had one before but he didnt get full grown (bout 5 inches) before he got lumps and died. He was absolutely fine with my oscar. I have heard they are non aggresive when small but get aggresive when they get larger. Hopefully someone with a full size texas and oscar together can post their experiences

both the cyano and carpintis strains of the texas cichlid are quite colour and imo awesome looking fish. as for aggression every fish is different but for the norm i would think that a texas is more aggro than an oscar.

i currently have a cyano in my tank with my oscars but he is still small only about 4 inches or so and the oscars are both over a foot in length. so im my situation the oscars still rule the tank but i do anticipate a shift in dominance when the texas reaches full size.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!
