TOPIC: oscer and puffer fish along with others

oscer and puffer fish along with others 2 years, 9 months ago #49733

i have a fairly big oscer in a 75 gallon tank along with a jack dempsi and a jaguar cichild the jack and jag are ganging up on my oscer so im acctually buying a 55 gallon tank tommarow for them 2 to go in while im keeping the oscer in the 75 gallon

now is the oscer and puffer fish going to get along how do you think they will react to each other they are green spotted puffers i would also like to add a couple to the 55 gallon tank with jack and the jag

i also have a 12" pleco in the 75 gallon and also a cat fish ( also being moved over to the 55 gallon tank )

let me know some thoughts i would really love to get a few puffers in there

Thanks Tim

good question, im curious as well, i have had 2 gsp's for a few months now and i have nearly aclimated them to full seawater from fresh. my intention is to get a lionfish and put them and the gsp's into the 55 my oscar is in now... and put my oscar in a 120 gal i have outside.

the bull shark.

on a side note, your GSP's will do much better if you acclimate them to a sea environment over a few months, you will notice their color will brighten greatly, their bellys will get completly white intead of that dark gray/black spotted color that you have no doubt seen before. that wont work for your Oscar but the gsp's will thank you in the long run and be much healthier and less prone to illness.

today i went to my LFS and pre-ordered a snowflake moray eel, and a niger triggerfish. should be having them in a week or so. just long enough for me to get my tank outside up and running (albeit not cycled).

im going to give the reef tank idea a try...

well firstly a jag, jack and oscar in a 75 will lead to some major problems in the near future for you. the jag if a male will grow to at least 15 inches or so and if a female 12 inches. the jack will grow to about the 10 inch mark as well. just for these 2 fish (if both males) you will need a tank in the 100 gallon range.
now an oscar in a 75 will be fine but the pleco, if a common or sailfin plec, will outgrow the 75 within a year or so. pleco can easily grow to 24 inches in length.\

generally speaking puffers are a brackish water fish and should be cared for that way until they acclimatize to a salt enviroment. now there are a few species of freshwater puffers but im not sure on them and someone with more experience will have to help on that.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

im looking to get green spotted puffers i was told they would be fine in a tank with my oscer and my pleco so i went and got a new 55 gallon tank last night and plan to move my jack into that tank and move my albino cichild into the tank with the oscer and pleco.

and yes it is a true albino he/she has pink eyes :-P

well... gsp's are notoriously mean. i wouldnt put them with anything that wasnt fairly robusto. it may see that oscars fins as a tasty snack.
