Dunno about the bloody noses, that seems a lil'over the top, but they are very skittish in the beginning.
My SD's used to literally "Pass-out" during maintenance.
They got so aggitated that they slammed into everything until they were laying sideways in a corner.
Nowadays they'll just move to the far end of the tank when I'm doing wc.
And if they get frusty on me now and try to swim through the glass(...), I just turn them over by hand to get them into the other direction.
Have they got some shelter or a place to hide?

all the piranahs and related type species (pacu, sd's ect) are all very skittish fish. the big ones (pacu for example) get the nickname tank busters for that very reason. not much you can do except give them some cover or vegitation to hide in to make them less stressed when you do have to do maintence.

Bloody nose may have been an exageration, he skinned his nose and probably because it was a fresh injury, I saw red skin/flesh underneath.
thanks for the advice guys.

Do they heal scrapes as quick as an Oscar, or do they take longer?

As long as your water is good your SD will heal up quite quickly

I had a SD that hid by the heater during a water change and as I had no heater guards he got badly burnt and it took weeks to heal completely. It did heal and there is no sign of where it got burnt
I can't get no sleep

Thanks for your reply's guys,
As you said, they started healing, and are now almost healed.
I doubt the 2 that bashed the glass will ever look perfect again since they kinda got little pig noses now, but at least they recovered.
It's just a shame that such an otherwise great fish is so easily freaked out to the point where they can seriously damage there face.
Previously if I had people over, they could just go right up and watch the oscars, but now, anyone outside the family has to stay about 2ft from the front of my tank so they don't make a movement that will send the dollars crazy.
Still, having had them for a while now, even if I knew about there behaviour going in, I would still have got em' anyway.
thanks again.

They'll settle down if they grow a bit.
Mine did but it took them some months.

mine do the same thing...as soon as i walk into the bedroom, my sd's go right to the back corner, usually running into the glass.
Please, for my sake, change your oil!

My SD's are such sissy's I don't see why they haven't died of a heart attack. It's odd to me that the big boys they're in with don't mess with them.
If you can't beat them...arrange to have them beaten!
