most catfish get fairly large. a pictus would be fine for a while, but they only grow to 5 inches or so, so that would eventually become food (more likely just get stuck in his throat). plecos i dont reccommend at all for oscars as tehy can make a nasty hole in your fish in the night. off the top of my head, i would say a lace syndontis. he grows to about 7 inches, which is just about perfect companion for that tank with a full grown o in it. they may look tiny in it today, but in a year, that tank will look just right.

heres a pic.

i am not fan of catfish, thus...my idea is limited for that...
i'd rather have a couple of angel fish in it than plec or cf

i dont endorse pleco anymore. they used to be my favorite fish, anymore i have learned they are far more trouble than they are worth.

and i started hating them when they became a menace in our body of
fresh water and swamp. in one of our lake, no more natural fish
available due to their presence in it. (surf: janitor fish in Laguna Lake)

personally i like the pictus catfish as mates. they grow to 6-7 inches in length and do a fabulous job with leftover food from the oscars.
other good choice would be a sydonis catfish, raphael catfish or even clown loaches if you can get some that are large enough.

lol how long does it take for a pictus to get to 6 or 7 inches? i had 5 for over a year and the biggest they got was about 4-5" and the oscar ate all but one of them and i gave him to a friend.

i have a 2 year old pictus that is pushing the seven inch mark in my 220 with 2 11 inch oscars. there is also a 4 inch pictus in there as well as 2, inch and a half long albino corys.
i have never had a problem with the oscars trying to eat any of the tankmates i put in with them in either my 220 or the 180 oscar tanks. imo if you dont feed fish to your oscars they wont look at fish as food.

I'm not a huge fan of catfish(apart from IDs, i love them), but cats do a pretty good job in cleaning the bottom of the tank. Since Os spill food they make the tank a bit messy. If you have got a couple of pictus there, they will take care of the spilled food.
