Cool!
When I introduced my Gar into the tank getting him off live feeders was the first thing to do.
I fed him some feeder fish and starved him for 2 days.
Day three he came up to the spot where I feed the other fish and took a dead feeder out of my hand.

Getting your Gars some food is your first prioity.
Gar can be a bit spooky, seeing they are ambushpredators.
The competing for food by you O's may make it a bit harder.
Have your Gars eaten yet?
My Gar has grown past 1' in 6 months and has become a huntingmate of my o!

If you have any specific questions, just ask, I'll try to answer.
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!

gar is good in scooping dead fishes. so you can buy silver side
fish in the wet market (dilis sa atin) or any fresh small galunggong
or alumahan.

i have seen giant gar in singapore and hongkong, and they fed this
creature fresh frozen fish from the market.

Aggreed with Paul, frozen fish it is!
Although I think I'll get some funny looks in my LFS when asking for galunggong'n'alumahan!lol
I feed him 3 fish day at the time.
But he also takes some mealworms and pellets.
Biggest problem is the Oscar eating in an Oscarway, almost jumping out of the tank, acting like a little dog and keeping his mouth out of the water like a carp.
The Gar will feel the need to stalk the food and sneak up on the prey.
Mine will take the food from the bottom as well.

i know somebody will react to that..... well galunggong is a decapturus macarellus
while alumahan is a mackerel. our dilis is called silverside fish which is very
high in protein.

i got you Noddy...

hey i havent been on this site in a long time since i was having trouble with my oscar. i recently got myself a red tailed catfish and a 14 inch spotted gar to go along with my 12 inch old oscar. i usually feed the oscar pellets and have been getting ghost shrimp since i bought the new fish the oscar and cat fish are eating everything and the gar wont eat i tried dangling shrimp infront of him i try leaving the food dangling at the whole of his cage for hours he wont touch the food and it has been 8 days since i got him he used to eat only shrimp at the pet store. i got a small setup and 20 guppies to start breeding and have added a couple everyday to the tank and the gar still does not seem interested the guppies are still small but i am sure he sees them one swam at his head yesterday and he was actually afraid and shied away from it. the pet store said they just left shrimps at the bottom of the tank.
