I read a few places that apple snails (the big ones that can grow to about the size of your fist, not to be confused with mystery snails) can live with oscars because they are way too big to fit in the fish's mouth. However, it seems to me like the oscar might nibble on his eye stalks and feelers when he comes out of the shell. I put a mystery snail in my tank today and it was immediately attacked so I obviously don't have one of the more docile oscars. Is there any snail, possibly a large apple snail, that could live with my oscar (no other fish live in my tank).

i have 4 golden mystery snails and a black mystery snail thats 3" across and my oscars ignore them.

so was my snail just not big enough or what

my gold ones are about 1 inch.

i dont know my friend, maybe your oscar just doesnt like snails lol.

i know my electric yellow, i had to take the snails out of his tank bc he would bite pieces off of them lol.

as for the size, if my oscar wanted to, she could get them in her mouth with ease, she just doesnt seem to care about them.

i think im just going to try to find one of the really large apple snails and see if that intimidates him at all. My oscar is still really small (about three inches).

How large can mystery snails get? I've had one for about two months and he's only about an inch. how fast do they grow?

they grow pretty fast in my experience, i bought 4 of these golden ones maybe 2 months ago and they were about a half inch or less then, pretty small, and now they are about an inch, and the black one ive had 8 months maybe and it was the same size as the other ones now its pretty big. bigger than my 11" oscars mouth for sure lol.
