Well Bob is doing awsome and growing like a weed. At about 3 1/2 inches now and I want to give him a friend before too long. I will be upgrading his 55 gallon to a 75 gallon soon. If I get just one tank mate what should I get? I know there are alot of opinions and I would like diffrent options. Thanks in advance.

I think you should wait until you have got a 75 gallon before getting any more fish.

I certainly shouldn't go overboard with tank mates, so maybe something like a blue acara, or something that isn't too aggressive would be okay with an Oscar. I've had big tanks for so long now I've forgotten what it's like to keep Oscars in the smaller tanks with tank mates. What ever fish you put in with an Oscar, you're going to run the risk of aggression.

There are lots of options when it comes to tankmates for oscars. Just dont get anything that gets bigger than 6 inches or is too aggressive. I would add the tankmate sooner rather than later before your oscar gets too big. But only get a tankmate if you are definately going to get the 75g

x2, introducing new fish has allways worked best for me, when they all entered the tank at a very young age.
The fish seem to grow into their environment together and tolerate eachother.
I say go for 75!!!
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!

when it comes to tankmates the list is long. i have and still do have a couple of jacks in one of my oscar tanks and although i wouldnt say they get along great they do tolerate each other enough to co-habitate.

imho if you are only upgrading to a 75 i would go for a smaller tankmate than a jack. perhaps like ofl mention an acara or maybe something like a robertsoni or a salvini.

jsut my 2 cents.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

i read schooling B. Rainbowfish are ok as tankmates. but you risk the chance the Oscar will just eating the rainbow..they need to grow together. If succuessful, it can add great colours(im Australian ) and movement to any tank.

I never seen any pictures Oscars with Rainbow fish though..
