ok now that i had my first question out of the way id like to ask another since i was very satisfied with the answers i got previously. ok i also have a convict that im not too sure about putting into the tank. the convict is by far bigger than the oscars but the tank he is in is with a jack dempsey where he is actually doing very well but gets chased around the tank if he tries to come get some attention from me or anyone else for that matter. would it be ok to have the convict in the tank with my 2 little oscars or should i just leave him in with the jack dempsey?

As all fish are different it is hard to say... The best thing you can do is try it! I have seen my Convicts be a little fin nippy! But Like I said... Give it a shot. You can always move him back!

ture but i dont really want to bring any unnessecary harm or stress to my fish. but on the other hand...i probably will try it out because my convict seems like a less aggressive little guy but i guess ill never know until i try. the reason i asked is because i had someone tell me that the convict would beat the oscar up.

Convicts make great tankmates for oscars. Convicts can be aggressive but they dont usually seriously bully other fish. However all fish are different so all you can do is try and just keep an eye on things just in case

Every fish I have ever had with convicts have been killed by them. I was given two babies by someone and they added them to an established tank of african cichlids three times thier size and they quickly killed off 13 fish. They even ate a 12" plecostamus. ATE it !!! I could not see it because it had begun to hide in the caves created in my tank. I have a 150 gallon tank so lots of room. One day they simply pushed the skeleton out of the cave! The bones were picked clean !!!! Also, they breed like rabbits, two quicly became 10. Before I knew it there was probably 50 assorted sizes in my tank. What I did not give away I moved to a smaller tank to start over with my new Oscars. I will NEVER introduce a convict in with them !!!!

I wouldnt put the cons in with your oscars. Especially if the convict is larger. I have heard of convicts fighting off piranhas before. They have a reputation of being pretty tough and aggressive fish. If you want to keep cons i would suggest just getting a male and female pair and that is all for the tank. They are quite easy to breed and are excellent parents.

convicts are fine as long as you don't have a pair of them. I've had 2 females in the past who would still lay eggs & guard them with their life & then eat them a couple of days later. they are extremely aggressive fish esp when breeding. if you really wanted it then maybe just one male would fine.

convicts are really nasty little buggers especially if you have a breeding pair. if your con is larger than your oscar you might run into some problems but if your oscar is larger than you should be fine.
all cichlids are territorial and if your tank is not large enough to house them then there is no telling what might happen. to help in ensuring peace i your tank make sure you dont have a breeding pair and that you have enough room for them to stake out their own areas.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

my convict is about the same size as the oscars but he is getting smaller than them cuz they are growing so fast. I just got one and i will eventually get him in with the oscars cuz the jack dempsey gots him just terrified of coming to the front of the tank and he has to get his food quick cuz the JD will get him. plus i heard that a con and a parrot can mate...figured id give it a try later down the line.

Well the other day, I put my convict in with my Oscars and parrot. That was the wrong thing to do! He got beat up more in that tank in 10 mins than he did the whole 3 months he was with the jack dempsey. When he would try hiding from the O's the parrot would come over and get him too. When i got tired of seeing him getting picked on, he went into this stump decoration by the parrot. they were in there with their lips locked and when they would separate, the parrot would nip his sides and fins. I immediately pulled him out and now he is in a tank with nothing but peaceful fish so he is loving it! I guess I got the one that the others just do not have patience for.

every fish has a different personality... sometimes what works for one doesn't work for another... Glad you had a back up plan!
