i have had 2 baby Os for about 2 1/2 months, One is about 2.5-3 inches and the other is only 2 inches. I was wondering if it would be ok to add a baby O with them( 1-1.5 inches). I know that the 2 i have have paired up. Idk if the 2 bigger ones will team up and bully the small one or if they would just stay to themselves. I did not get the baby but i was just wondering if i decided to get another, would it be ok? thanks for all answers

Your babies are still small enough to add another one implying your tank is big enough. But I have to tell you there is no way to know for quite sometime yet weather or not you have a pair. Oscars don't sexually mature until they are about 16 months old..

On a side not 3 Oscars is a bad number.. Usually one of them is going to get picked on. I did it for quite sometime and got away with it until one day the two bigger ones decided to start beating up the 3rd. Now I have two Oscar tanks. LOL

If your tank is big enough you could look at adding other tank mate rather than another Oscar!

Hope this helps!

How big is the aquarium you are using?

ok thanks. well im sry, i assumed they paired because they stay by each other all the time and they rarely go off on their own. but i would really like to stick with oscars. i think they are amazing fish. its just that if i were to get a baby, its my concern for it that my larger one would bully it, not so much my smaller one since its not too much bigger.

well right now i only have 2 in a 38 g. temporarily. I know that its 1 for 55 g. but they are babies right now. im saving up for a larger set up for the time being and i know it'll have to be considerely larger, especially if i were to have 3 in there.

Wait until you have the Oscars you currently have to be sufficiently housed and filtered before you even consider adding more fish!

You really are going to have to consider giving some of them if you cannot provide the appropriate sized aquarium. These fish get very big and do require a large aquarium. We don't like telling people that they have too many fish for their size aquarium, but I'm sure that you don't want to see your fish suffer from toxic poisoning which is not a pretty sight. If you don't keep your fish in the correct size aquarium, this is exactly what will happen when they get bigger.

first, in a 38 gal tank, oscars will not grow as expected....moreso if you are
overstock. having juvenile oscar half of their size is disastrous... the smaller
one will be just an expensive snack for the bigger one. i have that experience
a few months ago.

alrit thanks, well to be honest i really didnt know much about oscars until after i got them. i did my research after i got them but iv grown attached to them and enjoy having them and im working on saving up for a much larger set up since i have 2 babies. What would be the recommended size for 2? 80-100?
