I might be getting a 110 Gallon Aquarium from someone soon . I like to have tank mates planned out before actually doing anything and I was wandering if anyone had any input on good tank mates for an Oscar in a 110.

I was thinking about housing him with a common pleco, a firemouth, a cuban cichlid, and possibly a green severum or a parrot.

severum are great, firemouths, blue acara, salvinis, chocolate cichlids, texas are amongst some of the cichlids you can choose. Sd's, and clown cloaches are also good

An Oscar, a Fire mouth and a Severum would probably be okay, not sure if I would go as far as the pleco unless it was the type that didn't get much bigger than 8 inches. The problem with common or Sailfin which are most commonly found in fish stores is that they get a very big. Unless you have got a pretty big filter I wouldn't go too mad, just stick with a few fish.

My lfs owner lets me return fish...so I was planning on bringing back the pleco before too awful long. He is only 3-4 inches long at the moment so I figure I'll keep him on board for a bit longer.

I have a marineland bio-wheel 350 (the type with two bio-wheels). I was planning on getting a 20 or 30 gallon sump to go along with the HOB filter.

Would that be enough filtration for the oscar, a green severum, a firemouth, a blue acra, and a cuban cichlid? or should I drop one or two of them off the list?

I had thought about eithr SDs or breeding a group of tiger barbs...but i think I'd like to stick to a strickly New World Cichlid Tank.

I think you are looking at too many fish for a 110 gallon tank. One Oscar has taken up half your capacity already so you really haven't got much left. But if I was in your position I would just get maybe a fire mouth and a blue acara

I wouldn't bother with a sump filter, get yourself a nice beefy canister filter, then you would have some pretty good filtration, as it stands you haven't got enough filtration for an Oscar plus other fish, in my opinion that is

aside from the pleco that has already been covered one fish you should consider dropping from your list is the cuban. these fish can grow to anywhere from 9-14 inches in lenght and are quite aggressive. more aggressive than any other fish you have mentioned in your list.
imho cubans should really only be kept with other equaly aggressive cichlids that can defend themselves such as jags, motas, dovii, festae ect...

as far as a sump goes unless your tank is over 200 gallons in size a sump really isnt neccessary. a large canister will more than be adequate for your filtration needs.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

Well...I got a parrot today that is green and black striped...a real beauty. It is only about an inch long at the moment, but the Oscar seems to enjoy the company. I haven't seen any aggressive behavior from either occupant.

My LFS is getting me a blu acara and a firemouth on Wednesday. Can't wait to see how they get along. I will be taking back the pleco on Wednesday as well.

The firemouth and the blue acara might be put in their own 30 gallon tank in the future.

I'm thinking about getting a Magnum H.O.T. filter. Would the combination of the magnum and my marineland bio-wheel 350 be enough filtration?

Parrots sometimes look like they have trouble getting food. Try not to get into the habit of putting too much food in to make sure the parrot gets some, it will eat the bits the oscar spills when it eats

I dont know but i have 3 oscars, 1 dempsey, 1 texas, pleco, firemouth, 1 convict all in the same tank. they all go in a sort or chain reaction. noone messes with the oscars. the texas messes with the dempsey, dempsey messes with the convict, convict messes with the firemouth. no serious horseplay just little chases no hurt fish. and my tank is reasonably small for all these fish
