I was wondering if you guys can help me a little bit. Right now I have a 30 gallon tank with 2 tilfoil barbs and 1 jack dempsey. I getting a 75 gallon tank soon, so the question was can thoughs fish I listed go in a 75 gallon tank with a oscar, will there be a enough room in the tank and will it get messy a lot.

Given a choice between the Jack Dempsey and the tinfoil barbs, I would go for the Jack Dempsey. You have got to be careful with Jack Dempsey's, there is a possibility of aggression problems, especially in a small environment, keep an eye on the situation. Tinfoil barbs get quite make, they eat a lot and are very messy fish indeed. If anything is going to give you water quality problems, they will. They should be kept in quite big tanks as well because there are constantly on the move. They spook easily and can cause themselves damage which is why keeping them in small tank is not advisable.

Natalie,
Unfortunately you are heavily overstocked. 55 gallons is only big enough for one Oscar. Turtles produce a lot of waste. Depending on what sort of pleco's you have, they can reach over 2 foot long, sometimes 3 feet, they are also incredibly messy. Pacu's can reach 3 feet, normally 12 inches in captivity. Not really familiar with the other fish but having 50 other is not going to help. Please tell us how big the fish are at the moment. I don't think that your tank will cope with the bio load once they start getting big.

Big fish need big tanks and they produce lots of waste. When big fish are small you can keep them in smaller tanks.
To keep fish in good health you need to keep the end products of their waste down. This end product is nitrate. The filter turns fish waste in nitrate. You keep this to acceptable levels by doing water changes(preferable below 20 but never over 40). If you nitrate level is regularly over 40 you fish will eventually get health problems and your fish will not live as long as they should
When you have an overstocked tank and your fish are small is it easy to keep the nitrate down, it is when they get bigger that is becomes more difficult, sometimes impossible. If you have an overstocked tank you need to test your water for nitrate levels every week. Once your nitrate get too high you need to either increase your water changes or get rid of some fish.

First of all, is your aquarium big enough for any more fish? Regarding tankmates, it's very difficult to say which is the best tankmates. There are various fish that are suitable, Why don't you give us a list of tankmates you like and we advise you.

My Oscar tank is about 2 feet long and1 foot 5 inches high. Tankmates that I might buy for my 2 inch Tiger Oscar might be a common plec or a severum. Based on your experience, what fish should I buy for my 2 inch tiger oscar?

Unfortunately, your tank isn't big enough for one Oscar so I should rule out any tankmates until you can upgrade to a larger tank

They are still babies, and I'll buy 1 or 2 3 inch plec or severum. If they grow big, of course I'll chang the tank. For the meantime, which fish is the best tankmate?

You ask any Oscar owner about their about their first experiences with these fish. Many of us made mistakes at the very beginning. With the benefit of hindsight, you can see exactly where you went wrong. That's why I put this website together, to try and advise people on the correct way to go about looking after these fish. Of course, you can ignore everything I say and do it your own way. I only write by my own experiences.
Okay, I suggest that you have a look at the videos on the "pairing off Oscars" page. I have even add a link here for you. Your little Oscars won't stay little for very long. You haven't got time on your hands with these fish. If you seriously want to keep them healthy and add tankmates, start thinking about a new tank now. Forget about tankmates, that's the least of your worries. You need a bigger tank, and really good filtration. Once you've got that up and running, then we can start thinking about tankmates for you.
