Hey guys I just got my 100g setup and I wanted to build it around a wild caught Oscar I just got.

right now i have
3" oscar
2" red Sev
4" pleco
1" silver dollars (2)

Was thinking of adding JD and Salvini would this be overcrowded or have to much load on the sumb filtration i have?
thanks in advance.

First off, Hi and Welcome!!!

I think in your case, I would maybe add a few more Silver Dollars as they like to be in groups of 4 or more. But then I would leave it. And the reason I say this is because this amount of fish shouldn't be too much of a load on your filter. And that equals less tank maintenance.

Everyone has their own opinion but in my case I would rather have less water changes and more time enjoying my fish!

Hope this helps!

Once all the fish get bigger you will be overstocked by quite a lot. In truth, you have probably got room for the Oscars and the silver dollars once they reach adulthood. Sevs do not grow as fast as the Oscars so you may be okay with them for a while. However, if you have got common or sailfin plecs for instance, these can get very big and they will give you water quality problems once they get bigger.

What type of filtration have you got? To maintain a tank that is slightly overstocked, you need lots of filtration, if you haven't got it you are going to have water quality problems at some stage.

If all the fish you have at the moment were fully grown adults you would have serious serious water quality problems.

thanks for the advice I have a Marineland Tidepool II filter. Wow i had no clue a 100 gallon tank could only hold an Oscar, Sev and a few dollars. I really wanted to through in a Sav or JD for varity.

I am sorry! I miss read your post... The Boss is right! You are already overstocked.

We recommend a 75 gallon for a single Oscar. At the very very least a 55 gallon. But your Oscar will get HUGE! And if your Pleco is a Common, that too will get HUGE!
