Hey everyone...ok, been thinking a bit today about it and was wondering if maybe I would be better off only getting one Oscar and 2 pictus cats for my 90 gal (US)...or to stick with my original plan of getting two Oscars and two pictus cats?

The only thing I'm worried about is if for some reason I can't upgrade right away this summer to a 180 gallon like I have planned will this start getting too cramped. Would it be a safer choice, healthier choice for the fish if I just go with one Oscar?

Guess i'm just looking for peoples opinions...hopefully I'll get the big tank this summer and it won't be an issue.

I could have two canisters running on the 90 as well so I would have plenty of filtration in the tank...don't mind the extra maintenance either...just wondering what the "smart" thing to do would be?

ha ha ha... a difficult situation huh! i suggest you count number of months
before you can get that new tank (MTS huh)!. for an inch per month, imagine
how big is your oscars.... if they can still enjoy the existing tank until the
new tank comes, go ahead, get the two of them.... however, if you fail to get
the new tank, be prepare to re-home any one of the stock, otherwise you will
be in trouble.....water maintenance and health issues...

I would get 2 oscars. but thats just my opinion. if you are lucky and get a pair you may not want to upgrade or add more. if they start breeding that is. its a big gamble.))) and just to make you think more lol.

If you start with 2 babies you should be fine in a 90 gal for quite some time. The problem is that if you start with one it will be hard to add other fish later. Or maybe not.. I would get two, and if they got to big I would ask the Boss (wife) If I could get a bigger tank or two...

I agree Ryan, 2 Oscars, and 2 Pictus... You will be fine, just keep an eye on your water as the Oscars get bigger... Your Filters are plenty big enough to handle the mess.

i think that rena xp4 by itself should be more than enough filtration for a 90 with 2 oscars and a couple pictus!

Thanks for the replies everyone...looks like I will be going with 2 oscars and 2 pictus cats then...which is good because that is what I originally wanted to do.

Once my tank is cycled i'll give it some time and then move the Rena XP4 onto it as well until that one is cycled...eventually will probably keep the XP4 on the 90 since I can run the heater inline with it...then will most likely move the Eheim to a different tank that I wanna setup for my wife...should make it easier to convince her I need a BIG tank!
