TOPIC: how can i fix broken relationships...

how can i fix broken relationships... 2 years, 4 months ago #74525

i have 2 oscars which i had grown from babies together with 4 baby silver dollars. My post is about the two oscars O1(bigger) and O2(smaller)... when they were little O2 got bullied a little and so he didn't eat for a while and the other O1 did., now O1 is bigger then the little one O2 (like maybe 1.0-1.5cm), and he tends to have a go at the little one O2 when he swims in front of him., the little one O2 sortof stands on his tail and turns to the side but the bigger one O1 really lets him know whos boss. the eating is normal, i feed them on seperate sides of the tank and they dont mind that, they dont fight over food.. its just like the bigger one O1 doesn't like the sight of the little one O2.. and the little one O2 constantly has new little dashes and nicks, im guessing from the O or driftwood.. (he heals up fine in a day..)

Can i help them be friends in any way or make they like eachother??>

I believe Oscar number two is showing signs of submissive behavior. This probably means Oscar number one is the dominant Oscar of the tank. Now whether or not this is going to cause you problems in the future is difficult to say, it's going to be something you will just have to keep an eye on. It may be a case that everything will settle down and they will get along, or you may have to split them up if one Oscar is just not able to compete for food or is getting a bashing every day

Try scattering food into the tank so that it's not all concentrated in one spot, hopefully everyone will get their fair share.
I may not always be right, but I am always the boss
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved

x2.. I have two oscars as well. The smaller one is the bully. It's been like that since I bought them 4 months ago. The smaller one always gets the territory he wants. But now, the bigger one stands up to him. He now fights back when the smaller one provokes him. So now they're somehow balanced. They still fight though, but no serious injuries. I barely see them lip-locking anymore.
When I'm good, I'm very good.. When I'm bad, I'm f*ckin' better.

there are some approach you can try:
1) rearrange the tank decor;
2) put a separator; and
3) spanking (using a timeout net)

caution is needed in using option 3....if all of the above did not work,
another tank or re-homing one of them is the last option
