Nope, they should be in a single species tank.
Even then they sometimes gulp up eachother, or your hand during maintenance.
You need a group to make them feel at home.
Sweet fish, when you´re ready for them.
The price of those fish are incredible over here.
And i checked for you, 249us$ a piece, and you may want like 4 the least.
Very cool fish for handfeeding!
They eat bigger fish than themselves by letting the prayfish swim into his mouth.
The feeders reaction will be to try and turn, and gets folded up in the Gulpers belly!
I used the AqAdvisor to give you a clearer picture.
4 Gulper willl need a 180Gl and a huge canister as well

i goggled for the picture and surprised to see that wide mouth catfish.
they are predatory fish and easy to catch with hook. they grab anything
that move in front of them. i am not aware they can be raised in aquarium,
but we have them in ponds or cages farm as food source....

no, they can be kept in tanks, but except for feedingtime they're pretty boring and will rest a lot of their sparetime.

ps overfeeding isn't allways good as you can see.
6 inch severum was a bit much and like i stated before the gulper will let the feeder swim in his mouth and the escape move of the feeder will fold the fish into the belly of the gulper. That's why they can eat a fish twice their size!

And this is a bit sad, but i had to share.
This fish needs a big @$$ tank instead of the holdingcell he's in now.

This one i like very much, they seem like happy lil fellas:

lol that fish is begging for trouble if you kept it with anything you were not prepared to lose. very cool fish if your willing to deal with a big dedicated system for one species. things look like the bastard offspring of a pufferfish that got gangbanged by a largemouth bass and a catfish!!!! i love it!!!!

One other funny fact is that they love to play bowling.
The group will stay in one corner and one gulper will act as bowlingball and roll theothers over.
This is a common gulper behaviour and one of the most funny things tio see.
I'll look up a vid later!

they don't need to be kept in a single species tank, but make sure all tank mates are at least 2 1/2 times the size of the gulpers. i have heard of a 4'' gulper eating 8'' leichardti.
