i have not tried having discus but in one article, it was mentioned
that discus are more fragile than oscar and need different water
parameter. thus, not compatible.... i am not sure but will try to
find that article and post it here.

Ok I have a way in which you can keep both but will include alot of work. I have seen something like this done before and I was confused at first.

So I walked into a fish shop in Croydon and walking around looked at a display tank. To my supprise in the tank was gold fish, Mixed Malawi cichlids and a yellow tang with some corals.

This is the shop if you wanted to ask questions.

Well after the confusion I noticed there were three tanks one behind the other. Each had seperate filters and was inderpendant of the others. So yes it is sort of possible and will give the effect of the fish being in the same tank. It will mean loads of work twice the maintance and the hassle but it would look the nuts.

not only do discus have very specific water requirements (i.e. RO, low Ph, etc); they also need to be in groups (i.e. 5 or more). Discus are referred to the king of fish; mainly because once you can successfully keep them you can consider yourself king:) I considered them before getting Oscars, but found they are quite difficult fish to keep; not to mention, some varieties can run $100 or more each. They really need to be in a species specific tank where their needs can be fulfilled. Lastly, I think Oscars would likely bully them which would cause undue stress to the discus and would probably end badly. I don't regret my decision to choose Oscars over discus:)

Thanks for all the Feedback. I think I'll look at getting a JD or a Severum instead.

I have had my discus for years, and I can honestly say they are the easiest fish to keep, aslong as you have the right tank mates.

I have 2 tank bred and 8 wild caught, along with numerous cories and some dwarf sa cichlids.

They feed well, always have eggs or fry swimming with them.

Dont let the urban legends put you off, Discus are great to keep.
