been looking online at big catifsh and seen a 'lima shovelnose' catfish, grows alot smaler than tiger shovelnose mazing around 40 cm. net says it needs a 300 litre tank. does that tank size sound about right? anyone seen one of these b4? is this the kind of fish that could be kept in an oscar tank or, even tho its alot smaller than the other big cats, r we still looking at tropical pond territory??

I think 300 L is a tad too small for one of these Fish, I believe they can reach well in excess of 12 inches

45 cm is 18 inches, I'm assuming that when they talk about a minimum tank size of 100 L, that would be for a very small juvenile, unless they meant to put 100 gallons. You can't possibly keep an adult in 100 L. You would definitely be talking well over 100 gallons for one of these fish

Shovelnose catfish -- much more active than the tiger shovelnose. Theoretically grows to two feet. Sorubim lima used to be the most common shovelnose.
And more skittish then the tiger.
How about a bigger tank and geting a Juruense catfish.
Grows to two feet and is very lovely too.

But to be honest, they charged 530 US$ for a 3,5 incher at my LFS,so they're kinda expensive!
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!

there is one in this vid, and that is only in a 75 with a clown knife and common pleco!

they max. at about 40 cm, so nowhere near as big as the tiger shovelnose

below is copy and pasted from a tank volume calculater for my new £40 bargain tank (WHICH IS BEGGIN TO BE STOCKED!!! lol)

You provided measurements in inches:
Width: 60" (152.4cm)
Height: 36" (91.44cm)
Depth: 24" (60.96cm)
Your tank's volume is approximately 51,840.0 cubic inches or 224.4 U.S. gallons, which is approximately 873.0 liters.

(those r correct, iv just measured it again to just make sure)

Mat, if they are compatible with the rest of you stock, then I say go for it. All you can do is try!
