any fish that is big enough to fit inside your Oscars mouth is a potential snack, convicts are no exception. In fact, some people breed convicts for food. you've got to remember that Oscar's grow very quickly, a lot quicker than most fish.so it's no good adding a 2 inch Oscar and a 2 inch clown Loach thinking that they will both be the same size in six months, they won't, believe me.

It really does depend on the temperament of your Oscar. Some Oscars will try me anything they can get their mouths on, others won't. Somebody sent me a video from you tube where a Oscar had a huge great lobster at its mouth. the lobster was too big to swallow but they still killed it. Oscars can't be trusted. I was very lucky with my Eartheaters,I bought them at about 1 1/2 inches introduced them into my 300 tankabout a month before I added the Oscars. The Eartheaters are around 2 1/2 to 3 inches now and the Oscars don't pay any attention to them whatsoever. I certainly wouldn't advise anyone to do this, I was just lucky. I've done it before with small clown Loach so I knew what to look for. I've also got big tanks with lots of places where fish can hide and get away from each other.

I would just use your own discretion and add the fish if you think they are not going to get eaten
I may not always be right, but I am always the boss
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved

I sent you that vid from you tube wi the lobster penn.I was lookin at pookys oscar eating the fly and came accross it,unreall wasn't it!As for oscar tankmates ive two rainbow snakeheads in with my oscars at the min, plenty of hide aways for the snakeheads and no problems.I am moving the snakeheads soon though because the oscars will eat them in the next few months, the snakeheads stay small max 9cm,where as my oscars are growing very quickly and ino they will eat em because they will go for anything they think they can,and with rainbow snakes not gettin much girth, oscars mouths do.Not only that if you do to many water changes with snakes you will kill em off.
