I've searched some time ago if it is at all posible to have a frontosa in with an oscar. I myself like both too.

But the answer is NO. They just aren't compatable.

The fronts are african cichlids. they like their water very hard and with a ph range of 8.6 or higher, and into the colder temps. And can be at times very aggressive.

Oscars are south american cichlids. they like the water in a softer hardness. with a 6.5 to 8.0 range, and in warmer water temps. And are not that aggressive.

I read somewhere that even if you do try to acclimate to a middle ground of ph it's like giving a fish a constant headache. which would not be very good to either of them ending only in very sick fish, if not death to both.

(please anyone, correct me if I am wrong)

frontosa and oscar in a single tank.... NO. i had tried it once
and frontosa is more vicious than flowerhorn. for a 4ft tank,
that would be to small area for the oscar to hide.

i thought my O will give a rough time to frontosa, didn't know they are that much aggressive
too bad i love to have a striped fish in my tank. i have already tried with a buttikoferi and that story didn't go well either.
thanx buds

No mate.
Its simply not possible.

Oscars are from 1 continent, and frontosa are from another, and the water requirements are just as far apart.

I have seen on a certain american forum, plenty of people saying they have sa cichlids in with africans, then wonder why they have problems.

If its stripes you want check out the convict cichlid. A lot of people have kept a convict with an oscar. as long as your tank permits having another tank mate

I have 2 frontosa about 6 inches long. 1 is in with my oscars and the other in my 180 with a jag, synsphilum, sev, geo brazil, SD's and silver sharks. My tap water has a high Ph. I have had no trouble from the fronts. I am aware that they will get bigger and things may change, but so far so good
I can't get no sleep
