I rescued 3 bristle nose plecs about 6 weeks ago, they are 3 inches long. I have them in with my oscars who are 4 and 5 inches. My plan is to grow the bristle noses, 1 will be kept with the oscars (100g) and 2 will go in my 180g. The fish in my 180g (the jaguar in particular) would possibly eat them at the mo. When the Bristle noses are big enough i plan to rehome my plecs due to the large size plecs get too (and the waste)

So tonight I looked in the tank and I saw what I initially thought was a parasite of some sort. It was white and about 1cm long and was sitting on some bog wood. On closer inspection i realised that it was a baby bristle nose. WOW

Obviously they will end up as fish food as the oscars will eat them, but i am considering breeding them. So has anyone experience of breeding them and how quick do they grow?

I don't think they are particularly fast growers, I believe they max out at about 5 inches. Fully sized bristle nosed could probably cohabit quite safely with the Oscars. Unfortunately I introduced my two in with my Oscars when they were slightly too small and they both disappeared under very mysterious circumstances, let's just say that a couple of my Oscars looked very guilty the next morning.

As far as plecos go, their super easy to breed, I had some that breed many times accidently, none of the fry made it though...

Thanks, so if i put them in a tank and they breed will i have to take the parents out or will it be ok to leave the parents in. Also are they livebarers or are they egg scatterers? I cant imagine they look after the eggs???
