Lovely couple of SD's !!!
I don't remember how big your tank is, but if the bioload can handle it ,i say get some more to get them schooling.
You got one male and one female, i suggest getting some more females!
I got 6 in my 180Gl tank with my Oscars and they are very good at cleaning the mess of your O's.
btw they will grow quite a lot!
And $99 is crazy!$15 seems more reasonable.
Here in Holland the babys are sold at 4,5 Euros, thats $7.
They make great tankmates and make your O's look BIG!

my tank is 170GL, 600L, i want at least 2 more then maybe a pleco
$99 is the average price around here, they are a have decent size tho, my o's are around 7&9 inches

My males stay a bit smaller, but the biggest females are 5-6" at 1,5 Years.
Both my O's love to chase them around from time to time, but when the SD's freak out, they will school up with my 11"Red O!
Mind you, mine passed out literally when i did my waterchange the first couple of months.
Now they stay at the far end or i just move them by hand to get them away from where i'm working!

LOL, and i got Plecos in the tank too.
Sweet combo, imo!

Males have a prolongued anal fin and will display black "shoulderspots when horny.
Females have a red anal fin and grow a bit bigger.
Pretty easy, this one is a male:

And heres some old footage of 2 males having a powerstruggle, or on the other hand they may be gay, for i never had any of them spawn eggs!

And look at that tiny gar, you wouldn't recognize him now at over a foot long.

How fast do SD's grow? I have a 7" O and the only available SD's I saw in our LFS are about 1" - 1.5". Will they just be dinner for my O?

I introduced them as babys, so they may be at risk of being eaten.
But on the other hand they move very swift and are allways faster then the O.
Their bodyshape is unsuitable for an oscars mouth.
And having a school of them will make them look big.
Mine passed the 5"in a little over a year.

So if introduced late, what's an SD size suitable for a 7" O?

Tom & Kelly - nice video and nice new fish. I'll never mind a cheesy narrative when it's in an aussie accent:) I really like the rockery in your tank - especially the arch... it's lovely.

I had a foursome of SDs for over 10 years - they are nice fish; I'm sure you'll enjoy them for a long time.

Amazing the price difference - in the US they are really inexpensive - like $3 US - not sure how much that is in AUD.
