whats up guys
so i got a fire eel a couple days ago about 10inchs long
my tank is a 135 6ft
stock list
green terror 6.5
two oscars one 9inch other 6inchs
one comman pleco 7inch
and now the fire eel 10inch
i no im over stocked now that i added the eel but i go one week and my reading for nitrate at the end of the week are at 30ppm if that more like 20....i feed once a day two keep the readings down
but if i spoil them with crickets and night crawlers then it will reach 40ppm
i run an FX5
and two aqua clears 110's
do you guys think i should set up my spare my 75 gallon tank cycle it now then throw in the eel?
or keep the eel in the tank that its in now and just watch my reading?
i do plan to upgrade to at least a 200 plus gallon tank in a year or so...and throw every one together once i get the tank. if i do have to seperate the eel......

second question
the eel ive had for a couple days
hasnt eattin
tried blood worm
read up on them i no it says it might a take a couple weeks for it to start excepting food...
do you guys have any advice on this?

As far as your stock list, you are overstocked, and your stock is not done growing, so for now keep an eye on your water, and if it becomes too much then worry about it... But you should really post pics for me!!!

The eel will need time, just keep trying.

i no im over stocked lol
its one of thoes things were you see a fish and you have to have it
which means i no i have to get a bigger tank
what size tank is a good size to have with my stock list..........?
or another option would be to rehome one of the oscars i have now the smaller of the two which i believe are males ALWAYS FIGHTING..but ill get to that issue i guess once i reach a point when im doing 3 water changes a week just to keep everything in check....
ill try to get pictures but the eel is always hiding in his little rock i even got him 4ft of pvc BUT STILL prefers the little rock he barley fits in ha ha
would removing one of the oscars put me back were i need to be?

or maybe throwing another fx5 on there would that help at all?
just trying everything before having to give away a fish cause thats very hard....
if i could keep them all in the 6ft tank and be doing two 35% water changes a week i could manage that but even if i could keep nitrates in check would the tank be large enough to house them

I really think the space is a concern.. just out of curiosity.. did you just start fish keeping.. cause when I just had started.. even I over stocked my 2 feet tank with 7 types of gouramis .. and I had got an eel too.. but to my lack of knowledge. I had no sinking food.. as they are bottom dwellers.. and the whole over crowding sort of made a bad water condition.. and the eel died.. although the fishes were fine..

btw.. I just read some about that eel you have.. it reaches massive sizes.. and the females are a little plumper than the male eels

of course some pics would be nice

With the amount of filtration you have, you will have some time before you have to worry about it. But If I were you I would rehome the pleco...

But as I said, just keep an eye on your water, and you can always increase the amount of water changed, and then if you have to add a 2nd water change... But at this point, you are ok...

ok ill get some pics up for you guys in the next 2 hours
but im unsure if i can get pics of the eel cause its still shy and hidding.....
so nicki if i were to rehome the pleco then i would be fine and probably wouldnt run into problems down the road? just curious?
war lock ive been keeping fish off an on for the past 2 years so yes newbie
and i no the eel gets big but its a slow grower and biggest ive seen is like 30inch so far but they may be big but wouldnt take up to much oscar swimming space cause they pre fer to hid down below so thats why i was thinking it might work out

If you rehome the PLec, and keep the filters you currently have running, you should be fine long term unless your eel gets HUGE! Then again, if you just keep an eye on your water you will know when your not doing enough W/C...

I would think even if you run into higher Nitrates, you will only have to do about 40-50% every 5 to 7 days... And this is when they are all adults... So just keep an eye on it, and enjoy them!
