I know this is a common question to ask but I am setting up a 5ft, 120Gal approx tank to move my oscar into.

My current setup in my smaller tank is:
1x Oscar, 5-6 inch
2x firemouth's, 3 inch
4x clown loaches.

I have been spending many months researching the right equipment and I am happy with the results but I would like another Larger ciclid. I have a few choices but each come with worries.

1st a jack dempsey: I am worried that it would be too bossy and a bit of a bully.
2nd Severum: I can only find 2-3 inch fish and worried they would be to small.
3rd Jade eye: same as with the Severum but I am finding hard to source them.

Am I being too cautious and as the tank is empty would it be best to introduce the new fish first or wait and introduce with the other fish. I would like a fish with a bit of character.
Thanks all

hi there, are you just moving the Oscar into the 120 gallon tank, or all of the fish?if all of the fish are going into the 120 gallon tank and I don't think I would be looking for any other large Cichlid. However, if it's just the Oscar than any other fish you mention is considered perfectly okay with an Oscar.

I have never kept a Firemouth before but I know they are semi-aggressive and people often keep them with Oscars with no problems. I had a Jade eye Cichlid a couple of years ago and that made an absolutely fantastic tank mate, they don't get much bigger than 6 inches so as long as you get one that isn't going to become a potential meal, you are okay. The same goes for the fire mouth. As for a severum, these are also extremely good tank mates but do not grow very quickly. So if you do get any of these fish I would advise you try and find either a fully grown one, or at least one that is big enough to defend itself
I may not always be right, but I am always the boss
