Ok, I have a 125 U.S. Gallon tank (6 ft) and 2 oscars in it right now. I want to add another fish. I have been thinking and I would really like an arowana but I don't have the space for it, so that's out of the question. I don't want the typical silver dollar, jack dempsy, clown loach, etc.

I'm looking for something less common and more exotic. I was thinking about some kind of pleco, like a royal pleco, plus it would (hopefully) keep the algae down. I know they produce a lot of wastes but I don't care, I would rather gravel vac the tank than scrub it for algae lol.

So my question is, does anyone have any good ideas for some exotic plecos or other exotic oscar tank mates?

All I can politely say to this is, You could be locked in an outhouse for the rest of your life too... But who in the hell would want to live that way, or survive that way?

It would be in humane to put an Arowonna in that tank!

Lol No I can not put an arowana in that tank. I would need a 125 for ONE arowana without two oscars, but anyway, does anyone have ideas for some exotic oscar tank mates?

If you can get a Hypostomus, you'll have a maximum size pleco for your tank, when it's full grown. They max out at 12".

Or a Pseudacanthicus, if you like ugly plecos.

although they come in nice coloured varieties:

On the Royal, imo it's a bad tankmate for Oscars for it's a stricktly herbivorous pleco. This means it will be feasting on the food of the oscars, which is deffo not only herbivorous. They get bloated very easily and will easily die of that condition.
Royals are better kept in single species tanks.

And I was thinking about an electric blue jack dempsy. Does anyone know how well they do? Are they good fish to have?

what noddy was referring to is that the royal are herbivors and dont do well on a diet of protein which oscars thrive on. if the royals eat to much protein then they can get a disease called bloat which can be fatal to them.

as for ebjd they are nice fish but they do tend to be much less aggressive than the normal jack. they are also prone to diseases and have a high mortality rate as juveniles. also because of their lack of aggressiveness they might have a more difficult time in competing for food against the oscars.......
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

I was at the LFS the other day I got myself a 'Black Ghost Knife fish' (BGK) I know they grow to 20"s when fully grown and this little chap is just a baby and I put him in my 2' tank until the 'BIG BOY' is cycled which wont be long.
I spent about an hour or so trying to capture. I have done photography for ages and I know an hour is nothing if you want to capture the 'perfect shot'
This boy will be in the big tank shortly. I think he would make a good tank mate.

Suggestions or advice is very gladly welcome no offense taken...... Jamie

Lol it's funny that you say that jamie, cuz they have a bgk at the fish store where I work and I was seriously thinking about getting one, I was just looking for something a little more eye-catching, but I still may get a knife fish.
