OK I have made up my mind that I want to put and Electric Blue Jack Dempsy(EBJD) in with my 2 Oscars. The only problems is that this fish is proving to be extremely difficult to find and very expensive.

The biggest size I can find is 2 inches (5.1 cm). EBJDs grow very slow so I don't want him to emd up as a very expensive meal for my Oscars later down the road.

My question is what do you guys think is a safe size to get my EBJD at so that he will not end up as a snack for the Oscars in a months?

right now they aren't big at all. One is maybe 4 inches (10.2 cm) and the other is probably 2 inches ( 5.1 cm).

hmm if I was going to do that I would do it soon as you definitely wont be able to add any smaller fish in a couple of months lol just give the Dempsy plenty of cover to start with =). That's what I would say any ways ...other guys/gals on this forum know tons more than me so wait for their opinions =)

my o is much larger than my JD but my JD holds her own. i have a flower pot i cut a hole in with my dremel and the hole is to small for my O.
Here my jd pushes my O out of the way.

Dempseys can be great fish. no matter the blue strand. in my case its will my dempsey eat my Oscars. My 10 inch Jack Dempsey is with my 4.5" Red Oscar and my 2.5 Lutino tiger Oscar. All is well so far.

Good Luck with your decision!

Keeping Cichlids is always "risky business".

As far as EBJD, why do you need electric blue's when you can get large "regular" JDs?

Lol I like the regular Jack Dempseys too but I just really want to have something rare and unusual in my 125. Plus when I looked them up they looked really cool and would add some more color to my tank
