Hello. I know many people on here have Silver Dollars with their Oscars. I think Silver Dollars are pretty cool and have had them in the past. I was wondering if anyone has had Tinfoil Barbs as opposed to SD's to serve a similar purpose. Tinfoil Barbs are much more readily available in my town.

You can keep tinfoil barbs with Oscars. The only problem that I see is that you would need a group of them (say 5) and they get to be 12-14 inches (30-35 cm) which, needles to say would require a very large tank. But aside from size requirements, a shoal of tinfoil barbs would do fine with oscars.

I think I may just have the LFS in the next big town from me order me some Silver Dollars. It seems SDs are the way to go, as opposed to Tinfoil Barbs to serve that purpose.

I think Tinfoils are lovely looking fish. They cost very little to buy but they get very big and like to be kept in groups, they also eat loads and create loads of waste. Now 3 tinfoils need a big tank and you can fill that tank with some far more interesting fish. If tinfoils only grew to 5-6 inches then i would have some. Forget the tinfoils and go for the SD's

they eat piranha style!
