Howdy.

I know everyone normally starts two small oscars of together. But i only have the one big Oscar and am currently in the situation of rellocating him. (Moved house n new tank)

Now hes always been on his own since he was got so now am wondering what fish i could put in with him.

Have a 470L tank. Brand new that will be his new home. Now i need to cycle the tank for a week (also gives me time to sort him out).
So here where i dont know how many or what type of fish i can put in there to cycle the tank + be his new tankmates.

Thankyou

What are the tanks dimentions?filteration?

The problem you have with this is you will need to purchase larger fish, also allow for aggresstion which oscar might take towards tankmates,if he's always been alone he might find others as a threat, however this aside,

In my 566 litre i have

1 pair of oscars
4 bala sharks
1 ornate birchir
2 pink tailed chalues
1 spotted silver dollar<a rescue and cannot find more his size>hes a wopper>
1 channa pleurophthalma

All with now aggresstion problems at all, most peaceful my tank has been
150us gallon tank....2 tiger oscars,3 redtail tinfoil barbs,2 silver sharks,1 senegal birchir,1 gibbicep,1 common plec,1 hoplo catfish,

2.5ft breeding tank, pair of bristlenose plecs,100s of fry

solo manganeuse tank<PURE EVIL>getting a new tank..
84 us gallons, special made

When you are ready to move him, you can move all his water, and his current filter into the new tank, and you wont need to cycle! then you start the new filter in addition to the old one, and in a few weeks the new filter will be cycled. At this point feel free to remove the old filter if you wish.

x2 with Nicki.
I'd get 4 Silver Dollars as tankmates, but you got to introduce them at a reasonable size, or your O may kill and eat them.
Or get a 8-10" Pleco, although the interaction with a pleco will be quite different than with SD's.
My O's love to chase the SD's around.

Thankyou everyone for their replies. Guess have to see what the local pet store has. I did ask them once before if they could get fish in. hope they still can.

SO a couple of silver dollars an a pleco or two and of decent size.I smell a challenge.

take care you don't come home with "soon to be too big-common-plecos", and 2 plecos may have territorial issues and fight.
let us hear what you found and can get!

since you have enough space why not a cichlid (yeah im not a fan of plecos and SDs)
JDs, severums, salvinis, red parrots, firemouths
one of these fellas would do well with an O
you will have to provide good hiding places if its a cichlid

It really depends on what type of fish you like. If you like a few fish then go for SD's. If you want another big fish then go for a cichlid. The biggest problem you are going to have is finding fish big enough not to get eaten, the problem with this is that your oscar may take a dislike to another big fish put in the tank and beat it up. If you cant find big fish you can always buy small fish and grow them on but you will need another tank for them
I can't get no sleep

Atm hes got 9 black tetras that he cant get. even the pregnant one. But like everyone ask. I not sure how he will go with other bigger fish in there. Never tried.

Have just finished filling his new tank. will post pics later. when i have 5. No fish till after pay day ...
