I know Marcus has a huge parrot, that used to be with his oscar.
Quote from another thread:

I have a fairly large parrot, when i first got it as a very small baby it spent almost all of its time under some bog wood. I even checked a few times to make sure it was still in the tank cos I didn't see it for days on end. now its full grown its in your face as soon as you go near the tank. they do well with other fish, and mix with almost anything. very strong fish that survive anything you throw at them. in pairs they tend to rule the tank and fight with any larger fish to protect eggs. if you like the parrots maybe add another for company?

so that some different info than they gave you at the LFS.
Just keep an eye on them, but i think that was your plan allready...

i had a friend who keep parrot fish with some other fish (but not oscar)
we observe that though parrot have small mouth, they are good fin nipper
and could attacked even a bigger specie at that... what i have learned
further is that the heart shape parrot fish had gone this inhumane ordeal
wherein breeders cut their tails while still young and those that survive
became a heart shape parrot fish and could commands good prices..

in general, parrot fish is one among those specie that is good fin nipper

I could have used a quote from about 3 of you guys to express my feelings))))). i don't like parrots myself but have a fairly large one that was bought for me. But never mind how I feel about them, if you like them is what counts. they are colourful fish after all. easy to keep, and can take a lot of abuse from other fish or owner.

can they be kept with oscars. Yes. they will hold there own in with oscars, and mine is in with an arrow to prove the point. they do tend to nip by ramming into the other fish. this nipping can do a fair amount of damage and only shows after a few days later. kept in groups or pairs things start to change. they defend there area, and will do a lot of damage by the constant nipping/ramming. a pair of females seam to be ok has they tend to befriend other fish. get a male and female and you will have problems.

most of the nipping I got from mine was gill and eye area.

x2 on what necro said, not into hybrids, but marcus gave some good info, because regardless of what we think, blood parrots are pretty popular, on the more expensive side and can take a beating!
