Replaced the baby O's with bigger O's due to the convicts being too aggressive.
Its hard to get a good picture of the O's with my camera because there is a 2 second delay >< so here are some videos and a good picture of big bubba (the mean convict)....
Also one of my O's let me hand feed him already:
The one im hand feeding seems more outgoing, you can see that as soon as I start feeding him his buddy comes out of hiding and wants to get in on the action.
welcome to OFL
nice tigers, great markings
i dont think it would be a good idea to house baby Os with convicts, normally they are faster and more aggressive than the Os
hello and welcome to OFL!
i have to aggree with Kjak and wouldt like to add that the fins on your Oscars are allready bitten partially.
If it's a pair of convicts the aggression may never cease.
plus you will need all the space in the tank if you were to keep the 2 oscars.
but for now i'd rehome the convicts to minimize damage on the O's.
Those are real cool specimen and i wouldn't want them to get beaten up more...

convicts can be buggers mate and there is definitely some fin damage to your O. I would remove the convicts till the Oscar is larger.
If the convicts are just hunting him down all the time like they are in your vid this will result in alot of stress for your Oscar or even death.
sorry but just a warning iv seen it happen
You have to be trusted. By the people that you lie to. So that when they turn their back on you. You get the chance to stick the knife in

Yeah I ended up returning the babies to the LFS and purchasing two bigger O's. The convict just wouldnt leave the babies alone and I didnt want them to be stressed 24/7 or end up dead. So I bought two O's that are almost double the size of the convicts. The convict tried to nip the new O's one time and both the O's ganged up on him and chased him around the tank. He seems to have learned his role after that encounter. I will post up some new pics and videos of the new O's tomorrow.
Nice video and I like your setup with the wood and white sand look. very cool.
It sounds like you are set on the convicts, so all I can say is keep an eye on them. They should do okay as long as the Oscars are dominant to the convicts. I think many people get Severums instead of convits and have had better luck with compatability. I have a couple of "short bodied" convicts with my Oscars and they do fine most of the time. The convicts havent got into breeding mode since they are probably both the same sex. Or maybe they are just not furtile because of being a mutation. any way, sometimes these 2 little terrors do team up and get a little aggressive toward the Oscars if the Oscar tries to aggressively enter their territory. I think it is helpful to move the convicts territory every few weeks to keep them from getting too territorial to the Oscars.
Either way, I hope the best for all of your fish. Post a new video when you get a chance.
I dont know what it is but the one convict always started the chasing which got the other convict involved. He would be fine one minute and then the next minute hes chasing down his fellow convict or trying to harass the baby O's. Even when I introduced the bigger O's into the tank he went right up to them and tried to give the one O a little nip, but the O wasnt having any of it lol.
Thanks for compliments! I hope that since the O's are younger right now and the plants are already in the tank that hopefully they will leave the plants alone for now(key word "hope" lol).
New videos and pics are up! Check my original post for the vids
cool fish.
If you can handfeed them now you can continue this through all your oscars life.
I stated this morning that a fish eating out of my hand , to me is the ultimate sign of trust in fishkeeping.
I handfeed a lot of my fish and those have become all my favorites cuz i seem to bond more with those specimens.
hope all you want for the plants, but there's no guarantee.
my fake plants even get a beating if my oscar does not aggree where the plant should be.
i saw one of your convicts has a orange belly, which wouldt mean it's a female.
Does the other one have a orange belly as well?
If not they may form a pair, get to spawning and become a real pain, again.
btw what's with those seachem alert cards?
I see pH, what else do you have and what's your expierience with them?
I pondered about getting one for nitrates, but wasn't sure if they were available, and if they wouldt be accurate?

Hahaha I figure I will have to get fake plants eventually but I will wait and see what happens. I think its kinda cool that they both came up to my hand and actually are very inquisitive about things (I just used my gravel vac and they both had to investigate this strange thing in their tank). At first they were reluctant to come towards my hand in the water but even now they come to my hand if I stick it anywhere near the tank(wow they learn fast).
I am not sure about the convicts I will definitely go check that out right now, if they are male/female I will have to buy a new tank for them or temporarily house them in my 30gallon.
As for the SeaChem cards I have one for ammonia and one for pH, I have never used them before but I figured I would give them a try (on sale for 2.99 @ pets-mart). The ammonia seems to be accurate but I don't know about the pH one (it constantly reads 8.2+) even though I use a test kit that constantly reads around 7.5 the past couple days. I think the pH might be broken or I accidentally rubbed it with my hand or something. They were normally $7 each so I wouldn't recommend buying them, they were on sale that's the only reason I purchased them.
