The puffer forum requested a vid of my puffer jumping for his food.
So i made one last night.
Just like with Oscars, i keep the tank sealed off every inch for these fish are very persistant jumpers if they think there's food to find.
Well, i thought I'd share here as well.
please watch at 360p.

Awesome. I love puffers. The music is a little disconcerting though--givng me flashbacks to my younger, more (ahem)'experimental,' days.

COOOOL! thanks for sharing.... did they ever inflate themselves?
when ever we catch puffer in the wild, i was always amazed the
way they inflate themselves to look like big fish

and your sound is good huh!

but the way we were jumping around when we were younger, and experimenting made me decide for the music!

@ Paul, no, they never inflated themselves, allthough visitors keep asking me to poke them, to see them blow up.
But they hardly ever scare,luckily.

My wife is teaching them to follow her finger around the glass, and they really like that game.
Their character is really like oscars, begging and acting crazy all day.

if you have a small soft net, you can scoop one of them and lift a little...
it will give a tweeting sound as it inflate the body and would swim gracefully
when release.... i do not encourage you to do it because it may stress the
fish but you may try it.... we normally play with them in the wild whenever
we caught one....

(btw, we normally bring home the big one for the lactating mother)

Nah, i'd rather concentrate on gaining more trust, so i can keep handfeeding them.
And you know handfeeding a fish is a fishes ultimate sign of trusting me, imo.
I just love that handfeeding!
When mine were caught at the LFS, they croaked like a frog, but didn't blow up.
And if they get air in their belly, they may be in trouble and you may have to "Burp" them, really!

they did croak huh! it means they are capable of bloating... but did not
because they were bagged immediately.....and when they ever inflate themeselves
you will see their tiny glands that looks like spines in the skin LOL

any idea what they are trying to catch under the glass cover????

i put some bloodworms on the inside of the glassplate, to get him jumping.

When i feed maggots, he can be handfed!
