I know what you mean. There is an lfs here who fairly regularly has 7"+ loaches for sale for $120 each. They also have 3x8" loaches in a huge wall show tank. I want very much

very cool clown loaches JC. i must admit, I have never owned a clown loach. I never really thought they were that special until I joined this site. Now I see they are great tank mates for Oscars.

From my understanding, they are very susceptible to water quality issues and they grow very slow. I have seen larger ones at a petshop before also. from what I remember it was insanely expensive.

I may have to give them a try sometime.

They do require a lot of space eventually.

I'd be lying if I didn't say they were part of the motivation for the bigger tank. While it is true all the other guys need more space, it is truly awesome to think that all 5 loaches together.

Loaches were the first fish I fell in love with 11 years ago, before I had fish tank disaster.

You say you have put a 5" one in with li'l oscie, is that a mistype?. I hope you have put more than one in your tank. CL's are social fish and dont do well on their own, they need at least 2 CL buddies to be happy

Three CLs total is also the absolute bare minimum. They can get by, but they can't form a proper school. I used to have three, and they just weren't as happy as they were after I popped in the other 2. I bought the other two after I kept reading that while 3 might "do" 5 is ideal.

That is one of the reasons why it is expensive to keep them long term.

5 Clown Loaches = HUGE tank.
