Big-Ken created the topic: Painted background and substrate change

So I spent all day tearing down the 90g so I could paint the back black and get rid of that damn white sand (looked great but showed EVERYTHING), it was going well till I went to put Augie back in and he decided he wanted to see what the carpet felt like  He's a little banged up but he's fine........I hope :(

Acually I drilled holes in all drift wood and zip tied all of them down to a piece of egg crate the size of the whole bottom so the boulders help a little but there primarly held down by the entire substrate bed

Looks great Ken! That's a dang good idea zip tying the driftwood to the egg crate! I'll be stealing that idea from you! :P :)

jjjohnston8623

thanks its taken a while to get everything the way I want it and I have a few other things to do but I'm pretty pleased with the layout

Jason

it works very well and Augie can't move things around this way, only bad thing is if he somehow manages to pull it up through 100lbs of gravel you have to remove all the gravel to get it back in place :S

Nicki

thanks I think it looks much better too, and the colors on the fish really show up with the dark gravel and black back

Looks great Ken, i'm thinking of doing the same to my Discus tank, but i'd be switching from gravel to sand :P

Matt

I love the look of the sand and i still have it in my JD tank and i dont plan on changing it but my JD's arnt near as messy or crap as much as my oscar so its not perpetually nasty looking, and my JD's love to move it around B)
