I would like to add some photos that I have taken for members to look at but would like to protect them from anyone copying them. I plan to upload them to "photobucket" can anybody help provide me with a way to stop anyone copy/downloading and saving them? or is there a better way to do this other than "bucket".

hi marcus,

once you posted any photo in the internet, it will become public property,
any one could copy it, display it and use it, using your name if they are responsible enough, and they can not claim that they are theirs. you can sue them if they did claim they are theirs. unless it is encrypted, no way you can avoid it being copied.

my photobucket album is full of oscar pictures from different forum. but i use the owners name and what the owner called his pet as my guide. i never claim they are mine.

I did read once that as long as you don't change, claim as your own, or profit from someone else's photo, you can use it on your website. It's good practice to say where the photo was obtained from. If I was you Marcus, I would put your name on the photo using photo shop or fireworks. If people remove your name then that is breaking the law

I don't think the Internet is easiest place to police. If somebody on the other side of the world uses some of your material on their own website without acknowledging where it came from, how on earth do you go about taking action against them if they refuse to remove it? Is it really worth it if you are not actually losing any money? I suppose we are just relying on people to do the decent thing.

for 12 years, i am connected to a media company and a law firm,
it will be difficult to control exclusivity of such an item posted
in the internet. if i copy a picture and re-post it, then OFL copy
and re-posted it also, how would you after me if OFL is your refernce.
there are times that the cost of filing charges is not worth for the item
you are going after.

Things like this are not worth pursuing unless you are losing a lot of money by it, or your reputation is being damaged. Whether you agree with me or not, I think that once you start putting photographs and content on the Internet, you have to take the risk that people are going to copy it. Anyway, if people are copying my content, or using my photos, I actually take that as a compliment.
