DMD123 created the topic: Goodbye bowfront

So I am done with my 72g bowfront tank. After watching my 11"+ Oscar try to turn around in the 13" end area of the tank I decided to go with a standard 75g. Not an improvement when it comes to gallons but a much better footprint and also lower, so easier for maintenance.

Here is the old set up

As I was working on it I got a picture for comparison as to the height and width:

I still have some work to do in the room but here is the new set up:

I have to say I was surprised how big the Oscar is. I had him in a 5 gallon bucket during the swap and he touched edge to edge and had to curl up his tail. The bucket measures 11" across so Chuck would be at least 11.5" - 12" from nose to tail. He has gotten big! He seemed comfortable in his new home and I am happy he has space now.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the first picture, Jen ... no seams in the front. But I didn't know they were so tall. The standard 75 gallon will be much better for Chunk.

How is Chunk? Have you started the forced feeding?

He was roughed up a little in the move and his lip is got some wear like he was rubbing on the bucket but otherwise no issue form the move. The other issue is still there. The fungus look alike just does not want to go away. I decided to let the doxy/kana mix run the full ten days before moving on. It does not look worse but does not look better. The only thing left to try that I have in the fish medicine cabinet is Metro or back to triple sulfa. I leave on vacation on the 28th of the month and I was wanting to get it cleared up before then. If not and he lives and does not get worse, I will try a whole new round of meds when I get back.

I got that thing on Craigslist for a steal! I paid $350 for it and it is acrylic. It came with the stand, an AC110 like new, a Aqueon LED light fixture and a nice 4 tube florescent plant light. I sold the plant light off right away and later sold the LED off and bought a nicer one. My friend says he wants to buy it but we will see if his wife lets him.

Chunk is still having issues and I have not started the force feeding meds yet.

While I had him out of the tank would have been a great time to medicate but I was getting tired. I went ahead and rinsed out all the filter media in tank water and cleaned out tubing and everything while I had it all apart.

My wife 'reminded' me I needed to sell the bowfront. She would not put it past me to try and keep it.
I love the look of that tank but it just does not work with the fish I raise. When I sell it off it will pretty much be a break even situation with the new tank so no real loss.
