I think the advice on here has helped with his/her growth. I wanted to put tank mates in, tried a green phantom but took it out after a few weeks. 6 months in the tank on his/her own and 75% water change every Wed and Sun has helped him/her grow.

Great thread! Proof positive that tankspace and loads of clean water does wonders for Oscars. Pats on the back, well done!

Will keep this updated as time goes. Interesting to see what size he/she will be after the 1 year mark.
Worried last weekend i was going to loose him/her after coming home from a long weekend away to my FX6 not working, lying at the bottom of the tank not doing much. Had to rush out to the LFS and buy another FX6, going to be buying a back-up soon too.

Do you know what happened to the filter? Was it down so long as to kill off the bacteria? And yep, even though an FX6 will handle the tank on its own, two filters provides vital backup

I have no idea what happened with the filter, no power was getting to it. Only simple thing i tried was changing the fuse but never worked, guessing it had to be the motor but it was only a year old.
I don't know when it went down, we left home on Friday and returned Monday.
I put a small internal from my 20gal community into the tank to get some water movement going whilst i went to get another FX6.
