hi,

I am new to keeping Oscars and am preparing my tank for them. I have bought a big piece of wood from my local tropical fish shop, £25. i have been soaking it in water, but all it does is float, I can't remember the name, it began with M? has anyway got any suggestions on how I can make it sink?

welcome to the site

You're probably thinking of Mopani Wood which originates from Africa. It is quite common for wood to float for a while, just leave it in your tank and it will gradually become saturated with water and sink.

Thank you, I was worried I had wated money on a lump of wood that would be no use.

I am picking up my new Oscar on Saturday and am really looking forward to it - i will post a photo on here when I get it.

Don't worry, the wood will gradually sink within a day or two I would think.

Look for the seeing some pictures of your new fish

Put the wood in a large container and put some heaving rocks or concrete on it to weigh it down. It will soon soak up water and sink. Change the water everyday to remove as much of the tannin as possible
