i have been looking for a arowana for about 3months now. my large oscar died quiet some time ago and i wanted to replace him with something different. last wkend I drove 200mile to see a possible fish only to find it didn't look too well. at the price these fish go for I wasn't going to take any chance so carried on looking. i gave up almost and was going to settle for another oscar so popped into a shop as I was passing. Look what i found. Its was a little more than I wanted to pay as its about 11" the white oscar has been with me for about 8yrs and has always been soft until now. hes become a bully. hoping he will settle down as its only been together a hour or so.

How much did you pay for it and is this the kind that will grow very big?
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!

I'm very jealous. I've always wanted an arowana but we rent a house and end up moving every few years so the bigger the tank I have the more stressful moving is for us.

congratulation.... your additional luck starts when pick that fish.
it will be huge in no time but will change its color with a red lower edges
on scales at the belly part of the body. it doesn't grow much lengthwise,
but will have a wide and thick body mass.

one of the Unit Owner in my previous manage building have that kind of aro and
it is now almost 21 inches long with 8 inches body wide. (it is now around 6 years old)

I hate to say it but i paid £650.00 ($1100.00 US)the owner wanted £750.00 going rate in UK is around £1200. for a 12" so I got a very good deal.

it should reach around 28" max I would expect 24" and live for around 20-25yrs.

oscar has started to accept it already. arowana has a small (not deep) scrape on its head from over night scrap, but has now found new courage at dinner time. its feeding well on crickets and meal worm. don't seem to want to know about pellets at all. i am surprised at how active it is, always moving very close to the surface even in the dark. spend all day at the surface the day I got it but has now moved to mid water too.

My plan now is to put a 500-1000L (size dependent) water butt behind the wall of the tank (garage attacked to house). from this i will run a power head, a bit like a sump without any media too give alot of leeway with water changes. These fish don't like drastic change in water PH, or even large drop in nitrate levels. i have 2 FX5's running so don't need any extra filter bio. this should give me the equivalent tank volume of 250-400g without the wife throwing me out for taking over the home with tanks.

yes I asked if I could buy OFL's 300g. she said "yeah when you have got rid of that one" Paul that luck better start working soon mate. Lucky dragon fish glad you all like it, ill put some pic's up soon. its a bugger to catch in view it moves so much, thats why i done the video

holy cow! that is already good for 37 cavan of rice (50 kg each) or 3 years
food for my family.

the mere fact that you were not being thrown out of the house is already one
of your luck...
eventually, when friends of your wife started to praise you dragon fish,
the missus will appreciate it too....

Lol Paul you make me feel bad wasting money when it could mean so much to someone else.((
It would make one expensive meal the size of it. i am not sure of the cost to buy one in Thailand or singapone but i think very cheap.?
