Is this a pair?

When I first started keeping Cichlids, I bought sets of 2. They were all babies. And so far I have ended up with almost all of them being pairs! And now these 2 are at it!

What do you think?

They could be breeding or they could be testing each other strength to see which one is dominant. How big are they. They dont seem too big so I would guess they are seeing who is the strongest

They are about 5 inches long, and they are about a year old!

I dont know much about GT's but i have seen a breeding pair in a shop and they were bigger than 5inches. Best thing is to wait and watch and see what happens

i don't have much experience with GT but i was told that they become matured
at one year old. since you do not have any idea how old they are when you got
them, and they have been with you for that long, then perhaps, they are courting.
cross your finger they are....not the other way around ...bullying....

When they are lip locking you can see their "naughty" parts! I also walked in a few minutes ago to she "Her" cleaning a piece of slate! LOL

about once a month, usually after a water change, my female GT will begin staking out some territory and start messing with the other fish. when it starts getting really agressive, her "naughty parts" are also showing.
i guess it has to do with the desire to breed, but there is nothing in the tank she can breed with
Please, for my sake, change your oil!

Mu sunfish did the same and dug a hole in the gravel in the exact middle of the tank.
From that time on aggression started, as the sunfish decided the whole tank was her territory now.
And, no, a 8" sunfish cannot have the complete 180 to herself....
So I did the time out BAG trick, without reading all the good advice given in the end of the thread, and the fish was no longer any trouble.
He died in the BAG, and now i know it's supposed to be a time-out-NET!
Hard lesson learned...and a sad one.

I think if you caught me and my wife in a pose like this, it's no fighting that's gonna happen.....
