I use black gravel in my 90Gl community tank.
But I must admit it took a bit of getting used to, because IMO you see the dirt more easily.
Next time I think I'll mix black with very dark grey.
if it's all one colour you see everything that's on top of the gravel.

great looking tanks guys! i thought about doing black gravel myself, but i have 300lb of this stuff in some big rubbermaid storage bins, so i don't think ill be buying more anytime soon lol.
also the definition of gravel is loosely defined. do you guys prefer uniform gravel or a more natural meadly of sizes of pieces? i rather like this more than the uniform bag of same size pieces. its more pleasing to the eye i think.

what a gorgeous tank and fantastic fish! I love the clown loaches - one looks quite large.... how old is he? do your O's leave the smaller clown's alone?

largest clown is around 8"+ ( i got it at 3" and had it 6-7yrs+)smallest are now 4.5". i added 3 of the clowns with the oscars at 3"(very small) and all got on very well. they are now with a 12-13" arowana. And are still getting on very well. the dark oscar died (constipation) as did the plec (old age I think 9+yrs I had it)making room for the arowana. before you go adding small fish with large as I did i would say consider you may loose them as other members have. i could have been lucky. Thx for the nice comments
