TOPIC: My Oscar Pair

My Oscar Pair 2 years, 5 months ago #63042

I think I might have a breeding pair here...anyone have any thoughts? The Tiger is around 6 inches and the Red 5 so I'm assuming they have a lot more growing to do. The red has only recently been nipping at the tiger's fins and initiating lip locking...I'm again hoping that is because she is trying to see if he is a suitable mate.
Sorry for the poor quality its a cell phone cam...They are always together. I'm hoping I have a male and female.Sorry for the poor quality again but but it's the quickest I could show...They seem to have bonded however I have had to really work on getting the Red enough food. he/she had a really bad concave belly which is just starting to improve. I didn't think he/she would survive but now he/she is really lip locking and challenging for tank supremacy...just so you know I had 2 tigers at first and this one killed the original I had...no issue other than the occasional lip lock with the red and the tiger. The tiger is REALLY starting to become broad...he's looking more and more like the guy on the home page here...deep and thicker...

This Final one is my favorite...the white spots on their heads are from incidental fighting...They only appeared after fighting to get those Bamboo Shrimp...which neither GOT ...btw...lol. The spots on the Tigers back is from me not having a big enough net.

They're getting quite big and I think they're gorgeous. they DO scrap a bit..I hope I can keep them healthy. Keep in mind they spent a long time in a 20 gallon tank because I had no idea how big they could get and what I had to do to care for them. Now they have a 55 gallon with a plec and a 120 gallon waiting for them with great filtration because of you guys. Eventually I'll have alot bigger tank for them than THAT and hopefully I can have 2 9-12 inch Oscars who are a pair and breed successfully. WITH a monster PLEC. All sharing a tank that is well cared for.

Nice looking fish - I thought for a minute I was looking at my tank! I have a red (Red.. yea original sounding) and a tiger (Piglet) and they are about 3". They are never apart in the tank... ever! They come up for feeding together, they swim together.. I was gonna check and see if there was something holding them in place like string!! My Piglet is the "master" of the tank though - she gets most of the food. I call her a she just because she is the master! Red is the one that I worry about not eating enough. He looks ok and will get about 1/4 of the amount of food that Piglet gets. Red has started to do a little "fighting" but I am battling some water conditions.. you guys are already helping me on that. Either that or the man is finally standing up to the woman and saying "give me some or else"!! Meaning food of course!!!

WIN, that makes me unhappy you are uncertain. Thus, perhaps, you must face my Pleco. you really do NOT want to face my Pleco. He only comes out when death is certain. Be careful. when the clock strikes 12...the PLECO will RISE. other than that...he's cool. He looks like the 'TarMan' from 'Return of the living dead' if you have seen that one...'BRAINS!'

Its funny because whenever I go to the Pet Store now I fuss over the Tiger Oscars..i want 'em but I can't have 'em...One of them is really colorful and aggressive, and I'm sure the employee is tired of me pointing him out. Nickiesue was totally right, she said I would end up with 5 tanks...

Mine, as you can see, are the same....but the tiger has been the bigger and, the 'boss,' apparently. However, nowadays the red is really pushing the 'Who's Boss issue.' It's really funny and cool how the contest has changed. The red is initiating the lip lock and going after the Tiger who has always been dominant...not much longer perhaps...

For a laugh...here is my Tiger when I first got him...Like the substrate? How's that tank look? if I hadn't been interested in Oscars he would have probably stayed in there and been very unhappy. Its funny how little he was though...at least now he's big and has some Oscar attitude...

lol... no offense... but wtf??? lol you lost me lmao... the only thing im uncertain of is what your talking about lmao!

and for the record... i hate plecos... imo... they are nusance fish that harass my other fish in the night... i had to rehome a foot long pleco after it decided to start snacking on my foot long o in the dark... resulting dozens of 3am dead sleep cold fish tank showers due to the fact the tank was right next to my bed... and even now i have 2 in my koi tank that have devolped a taste for goldfish slime and are harassing them.... so if you want another pair of them leme know, im looking to rehome them (only because i know the cat wont even eat them... i tried that before)

He doesn't harass anyone...Actually, the Oscars harass him but he gives as much as he gets. He just hangs out and shits MONSTER dookers. lol. They ARE bigguns. He definitely shits more than he cleans but he is too cool looking to worry about...

My biggest pleco fights my Vieja every night when they both claim the zuchinni.
The pleco will suck on the green part and the Vieja will do his forward headbash attack on the soft part of the zuchinni! Until the pleco chases the Vieja away orthe other way around.
Over and over again. But the pleco never bother my O or any other fish.
