Cool video but I'm just wondering are flies really good as food?

Hehehe, cool one pooky!

John, what are your worries regarding flies, because they could carry diseases?
I would imagine Oscars catch the occasional fly in the wild as well. Personally, I don't go insect hunting for my Oscar, but whenever some annoy me and I catch them, they go into the Oscar tank, provided it's nothing that would be poisonous or can sting.
If I were a guy, I\'d have probably needed only 30% of the amount of words to say this

Please don't take my last post the wrong way I wasn't condemning the practice of feeding flies to fish.

I guess there's nothing wrong with it. It just seems that flies are so, you know, well their flies. I guess their no different than crickets or other insects. But when I think of flies and where they might have been yuk. You know the old adage "don't put that in your mouth you never know where it's been"

He only gets the occasional blowie, and that's when it's flying around my head when I'm on the comp!
I mean, in the wild, animals would poo and wee in the water (well, not in it, but it would wash in there) and the oscar would be swimming in that all the time. As for a fly, they suck on a bit of poo, and other yummy things laying around but it has never done anything to Oshie, and he loves them, so I guess it's ok!

It's only natural for them to eat flys just think how many are in the amazon all year round.I understand that though john we no were they might of been and when you think about it it makes one think do i really want to give my o that? But at the end of the day they'll eat much worse in ther natural habbitat, and as pooky said just imagine what is washed down the amazon 365days a year.I did see on you tube somebody feeding live pinky mice to oscars i personally would only feed sommat like that dead, but on the other side would it actually happen in the wild?Well maybe once in a o's entire lifetime but very unlikely part of his diet.Id like to no some of you guys views on the pinky mouse what do you think?

I think I cried watching the first part of that video, I couldn't watch anymore. It's so cruel to do that, to a live mouse. That's why I couldn't keep a snake, they love live mice and I couldn't do that!
I hated it!

couldn't agree with you more, it always upsets me when i think of things like that, that go on all too frequently unfortunately. It's also very bad for the Oscar too as Os digestive systems are unable to process a mouse's fat, so unfortunately this "fun" is ultimately going to lead to the death of the fish as well

Ugh, to me that is just plain sick. I understand that snakes, other reptiles or spiders have to eat, but for fish I can't really see any sense in that other than the questionable fun of the owner. I personally can't even do feeder fish, and I definitely prefer mice like this.

I also keep snakes but i can asure you never would i feed them live prey.AS for the o's like pillow pants said its not part of the fish natural diet.In the wild fish would only eat fish, insects, veg matter, with the exception of pirahnas and fish like that. There just well out of order i think.
