TOPIC: any advice for better photo taking?

any advice for better photo taking? 4 years, 4 months ago #9178

I find that I cannot get the quality of photos I want. Even if it turns out ok, it still never looks quite good enough.

I was wondering if any photo experts out there have advice on camera settings, setup inside and out of the tank, and getting cooperation of the subject

I can never seem to get the tank clean enough, I scrape the inside, clean the outside with vinegar ... and still streaks show up!

I can never capture the color of my fish as I see him. Either flash washout, reflections, or whatever.

I would just like to give some pictures that give my O justice.

Thanks for any help, even if it is a link elsewhere

I also have huge problems capturing really good images of fish. I have contacted a local professional photographer and asked his advice is, hopefully he will give me some tips.

The biggest problem with taking photos of fish is the reflection you get from the tank. This is only made worse if the tank faces a bright window. Even in the evening, you can get quite bad reflection. I sometimes think it's best taking a photo with all the lights off in the room.

The other big problem you get is when the fish move, this often results in blurred photos. Most of us use digital cameras nowadays. The problem with most of these cameras as the shutter speed is just not quick enough which results in the delay. So you might think you are taking a photo of a good situation, because of the delay, the fish often moves before the photo is taken.

I'm sure that someone will correct me if I'm wrong but to be really successful in getting good photos, you need to use good quality equipment which obviously costs money. I have got a Nikon Coolpix digital camera which cost around £200. It doesn't take too bad a photo, however, I get more blurred one some good ones. I don't think these cameras are made for action shots.

I have found that if you are using the flash, take the photo at an angle, whether that's left or right, or looking down, you often avoid having the flash spoiling the photo. In the evening, turn the lights out just have the tank lights on and don't use the Flash, this often results in a pretty good photo.
I may not always be right, but I am always the boss

Thanks for the response. I hope you get some extra tips from the local profession as well.

I have tried some, and will try other suggestions you gave and see if I can pull off an acceptable photo. I suppose I should put up some of my older ones as well when I get some time
