Hey guys! I just recently got my tank up and running and added my little Oscar. Here's a pic of the tank all set up--

I bought the Oscar yesterday afternoon and he's just been sulking and hiding...

I know it's normal, but for how long? A few more days or so?

Thanks!

If I was in your position, I would put a dark background on your tank and give the Oscar a few more hiding places. The tank is very very bright at the moment and there isn't really any hiding places for him. He is also a very young Oscar that is probably quite scared. Just make sure your water is in good condition.

Thanks for the input. I turned the light on just for the pictures. I've had it off for the rest of the time. I will look into getting a background and adding another hiding place for him.

Poor little scared baby oscar. He wont stay that way long!!!!!

I would get a heater guard at some point as oscars have been known to take a dislike and break them.

The sulking usually last for a couple of days but can be longer

Have fun and watch him grow FAST!!

Oh but he's so poor, little and scared! Those pics make me want to take it out and carry it around in the sleeve or so, so very cute!

Yep, he'll come around and become a big greedy monster in no time. Agreeing that some more hiding spaces would help though to make him feel safer.
If I were a guy, I\'d have probably needed only 30% of the amount of words to say this

Thanks guys! He looked so tough at the pet store, chasing around all the other Oscars that were smaller than him. Now he looks like a big baby! I also wanted to mention that I checked all the water levels and they were all about perfect, so water is good. I don't remember the exacts but, amonia was 0, nitrite 10....

Thanks for the advice about the heater. I'm going to have to mess around with it anyway because it's set at 80, but continually gets hotter if left on all the time. I've been plugging it and unplugging it to keep it at 80... I don't want to disturb the little guy by sticking my hand in there and messing around with it already.

I put a couple pellets in there yesterday cause he started to swim up to the top of the tank, but he didn't eat them until they sank down to the bottom. I was glad to see him eat though!

I'll keep you posted and let you know once he comes out of his shell a little bit...

nice little oscar they so cute when so small and inocent.

u should check out that heater as temp fluctuations arnt very good for yr Oscar depending on yr climate u might get away with it during the summer.
DONT BUY ON IMPULSE DO SUM HOMEWORK FIRST

Nitrite should be zero or was this a typo and you meant nitrate

If the heater is playing up get a new one pronto!!!
