TOPIC: Clear PVC

Clear PVC 4 years, 4 months ago #10013

Has anyone here used clear pvc as a water bridge?

I just aquired an all glass 265 84"x30"x26" and am thinking of connecting my 800 to the 265 and then connecting those two to my 240 and would like to use a section of clear 6" pipe in the middle of the water bridge. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced problems with the pipes getting dirtier than dirty...

brilliant idea ... I have thought of having interconnected tanks somehow before as well ... if you do it, pictures are a must!!! (please!)

I would say, you can get that pipe clean anyway. There are plenty of long handled brushes ... and attacking from both sides, should get just about any length clean.

I wouldn't think it to become too covered with algae, unless you have a direct light on it for extended periods of time. Some is impossible to prevent though, even without direct lighting.

I really hope you do it.

Well, let fill you in on the entire situation. Here's how the tanks will be configured:

The 800 and 240 are 12' apart from each other, and the 265 is 7' leaving 30" in between. Not to mention the the 800 and 240 are in two seperate rooms:

800

And here's where the 240 is, on the opposite side:

The 240 would have to be lowered to the same hieght as the 800 in order for this to work.

I've done water bridges experiments in preparation for this, so the logistics of it arn't a problem. I'd just like to know about the clear pvc specificly

beautiful tanks! How will you connect the pipe to the tanks, will you have to make a hole in the sides?

I read the thread on another site when you made the 800. It came out wonderful.
Don't know much about the water bridges though.
good luck.

Do you remember when you were a kid and you'd play with a cup in the bath tub... You'd turn it up-side down under water then lift it out of the water and the cup would still be full....

It's the same principle, but the piping will be made in the shape of an up-side down "U" The only trick is filling them and getting all the air out of the pipes;)

I've actually got a plan for that thoughB) I tend to try and think of everything before I get into it. I like to research and research... This probably won't become a reality for six months...

O i see. Gonna be fun filling it with water!!!! Unless you are going to be using something like those vents you can get from plumbers merchants for allowing air to vent out of closed water systems, but for those to work you will need to mostly fill it and then create some pressure
I can't get no sleep

Those are called nova vents.... which won't work in this situation... I plan to have one end of the "U" have a threaded cap on it for two purposes. One for filling and the other in case I need to keep someone away from someone else:ohmy:

Just a though. If you have the bridge up like a U, cap off one end whilst filling it up.
Cap that end when full, then turn it back over to a bridge into the tanks and remove the caps. There would be no air. Seems like it would work to me??? Unless I don't quite get what your doing???

Excelent idea... unfortunately the water bridges will be going through walls.... Here's an updated picture showing the walls:

looks like a huge undertaking keep us poste with pics and info yeah
DONT BUY ON IMPULSE DO SUM HOMEWORK FIRST

Re:Clear PVC 4 years, 3 months ago #10182

Definately, but more than likely I'll start another thread... The 265 needs repaired first, stands need to be made shorter, and entertainment center needs to be built into it, walls need built, and so on and so on LOL
