I get so bloody annoyed with some of these aquatic centres. The advice they give to people is so unbelievably erroneous sometimes. A good example being tonight. A very close friend of mine started keeping fish not long ago. She is only that a very small tank and around eight fish. They told her that she didn't have to do water changes very often, maybe every three weeks. For crying out loud, this tank is around 10 gallons. There is no way on God's earth that you can leave a tank like that for a few weeks without water changes. I told her to do a water test because she kept saying that some of the fish were dying. Nitrate levels, 160, say no more. The poor fish must be stressed out no end and very susceptible to disease.
The reason I think a lot of these fish shops dish out this information is because if they were to tell every potential customer what is really involved in keeping an aquarium healthy, a lot of people wouldn't enter into Aquatics. That's my theory anyway. Most people want to sit back and watch their fish without any hassle. Unfortunately, you cannot do that with keeping fish
