For some very strange reason (probably a bargain this new software) I am no longer getting the "new post" indication at the end of each subject on the forum. In case you don't know what I'm talking about, it tells you how many new posts haven't been read. Under start seeing any of them today. I put the question on the Fireboard forum and it seems that there may be a bug in this new software. Hopefully the get it sorted out in due course. Just wondering if everybody else is seeing this as well.

If that's the "worst" of it (bugs) then I wouldn't be too concerned as you still see the folders change from Blue to Green when there's a new post inside and then when you open a folder the thread will show a new post on the left with an open envelope. So, it's no big deal but I know what you are referring to. Besides, they may fix that bug after some time (or not).
Been kinda slow lately anyway...

Funnily enough, somebody on a Fireboard for mentioned something about the forum being slow. Can't honestly swear I have noticed any slowness.
It's not just me, apparently it is a bug in the software which they are going to sort out. Somebody else replied to one of my messages on the other forum saying it was doing the same on their forum. Don't suppose it's really anything to worry about.

Well, that's very strange, just looked at the forum on Mozilla Firefox and everything go showing okay. Must be a problem with Internet Explorer.
Just take a look at this link. If you look where general forum is, the box is quite short. It doesn't show properly on Internet Explorer where does on Firefox

Well, I am not as experienced as you with this end of it but I can tell you that I have noticed a real reduction (I feel) in the amount of participant posting.
I also notice many times that we have many visitors, sometimes 6 or more at a time but no activity. No Members seem to be present lately and maybe thats a coincidence (or maybe not?) I'd give it a week more or better yet, start a poll or general question to confirm that people can acess the site like the old one with no problems? It might be a good idea to see via a poll and a lack of participation there (in the poll) might tell you the answer.

I keep a regular check on the statistics of this site. For instance, today we've had just over 150 hits on the search engines. Strangely, there are more hits on Yahoo than Google which is very unusual. Some days we get well over 200.
I think it's a case of some people are stayers, like yourself, and some people will drift off and then may be come back later on. I think it's a case of finding the forum that you feel comfortable on. I have used absolutely loads of forums and there is only one that I have ever spent a lot of time on. I think most people are like that. I've just checked on one particular forum that is very popular and they've only got 14 people on there at the moment, five of them are registered. Now consider they have 14,000 members and have been running since 1998.
I want to try and build this website up and keep adding more information. Hopefully when my Oscars mature, I can do a lot more about breeding. I hope to have a couple of pairs of breeding Oscars. I plan on making various videos when the time is right.
If you check out the guest wall, we are getting some really nice comments of people. I am sure they are aware of the other websites. If we work hard enough, we could make this website one of their most popular sites on the net, I am absolutely positive about their

You know, I often drive down the road and pass all the new car lots filled with brand new cars and wonder, "Who the heck buys all those cars".
Then I visit the pet shop and see several aquariums filled with Oscars (continually being refilled with new etc.), and wonder, "Who the heck is buying all these Oscar Fish that will grow to be 12" long"
Then I joined this website forum and after spending just a few weeks here, I think I have begun to understand a possible answer to the Oscar question.
The answer is - "LOTS of People buy them and often don't have a real clue how to care for or raise that fish that will eventually grow to be 12" long" There's alot that are undoubtedly being placed in uncycled new aquariums and there are alot of apparent deaths too. I say apparent because often the person expresses some troubles (here on this site)and eventually disappears or drops out of sight. Ill bet that many of the fish discussed here die and the fancy is over for the time being.
As for the "cars", I still have no idea who is buying all those new cars that fill all the dealers lots here. But it doesn't matter anyway I guess...
For me, this site has been almost addictive and I attribute that partially because these two fish I purchased (These two Oscars) have mesmorized me, especially so because I have wanted one for many many years. Then this site is excellent in its own right and just helped feed my addiction.

Thanks for the comments, they are very much appreciated.
I suppose I did this site for two reasons. Firstly I really enjoy messing around on computers and especially building websites. So since I had an interest in Oscars, I thought I might as well do website. I never realised it would end up being quite popular. But like you, I absolutely adore the Oscar and it isn't something I ever get bored of. If we can just try and educate people on the correct way to look after these fish then that will make my day.
Oscars are definitely one of the most popular fish out there so I think this website will always have its fair share of visitors. We just have to try and build it up with more information if we can

You mentioned a poll, what exactly did you have in mind?

Actually, A Poll wouldn't work in this case.
I was thinking we could Poll the members to see if they are having trouble accesing the website now (since you changed it) but then if they are having troubles they wouldn't be able to access the poll either. Duh!
It just seems that few members are around lately and some of the regulars have gone for the weekend maybe.

The hit on Google haven't been so much in the last couple of days. In fact, we've had more hits from Yahoo today which is very strange. I did a quick search on Google and there is nothing wrong there, this website is showing up with any number of phrases. I think that sometimes you can have lots of visitors, and other times it just seems a bit slow. Depends how many people are on the Internet looking I suppose. If you type in oscarfishlover.com into a search engine, you can see that we have links in quite a few places. That's really good because that increases the chances of traffic coming to the website.
I can't see people should have a problem, you didn't have a problem. If it was a problem with the website, everybody would have it, not just a couple. In fact, I think this forum is easier to use than the old one, and it certainly looks better.
Time will tell. The website has only been running since the middle of December, that's not very long really. And taking that into account, the fact that we get well over 100 hits from the search engines every day, I think that's quite good. I don't pay anything, I just rely on rankings.

Actually, there weren't that many "regulars" here anyway. So, I'm sure you are quite correct that theres nothing wrong etc. Like you said, you and I aren't having any problems..
